  1. Defrag utility in Windows

A fellow tech recently made a comment that was bewildering to me. He said that the defrag utility will only defrag the user profile if you're currently logged in as a regular user. He said the only way it will defrag the entire hard drive is if you log in with admin rights. Is there any truth to this? I've been a Windows user since Win95. I have never heard of such a ridiculous statement but I could be completely wrong as as the more recent versions (such as Win10) are designed completely differently from older operating systems. At home, I have 2 computers running Win7 and Win8.1 - I've never had a problem with defragging the entire drive when i was running a traditional spinning platter drive. These days I don't even bother as I have a solid state drive in both computers.

Personally, I think the guy that made this comment was a total flake and very unknowledgeable (basically a tech wanna be) but I thought i would ask here just to make sure I haven't missed something.

    :)

    Good defrag utility??

I have tried out most of the defraggers listed above and would not any of them on an OS drive. They all interfere with the boot optimisation that MS has implemented and do not adequately replace it (if the option to do so exists).

I recommend using the Windows defragger, prefetch ,superfetch and layout.ini system for your OS drive as they are all interelated and work the best.

For non OS drives, there are a number of approaches, I suggest Ultimate defrag or Optimum defrag do a great job on game drives or storage drives. Mussels thread has the info.

  3. defraging utilities

Idk why i've put up with the crappy vista defrag program but I need something better. Any suggestions for a worthy defrag program? I've seen people mention a few in these forums before but I havent been able to find them lol.

  4. Defrag utility in Windows

    Windows Defrag

When running defrag, there is a drive listing for Windows RE Tools. It shows as a solid state drive and that it has never been defragged. It will not optimize. Clicking on it does nothing. Any suggestions?
