That's kinda strange. If you have 100 of your own folders inside Pictures folder, then the addition of two extra folders is unfortunate, but probably is not a big deal. But for those who only have like two or three of their own folders under Pictures (or none at all), these folders are a huge annoyance, period.

And it is not just about quantities too. It is about qualities. It is about the general competence of those who write that software. The hard rule is very simple: implicitly creating anything inside user folders is strictly prohibited.

There was a time in XP era when various software vendors had that brain-dead habit of dumping their internal save folders into Documents folder (!!!). Luckily, such vendors were quickly grabbed by their neck and shoved face-first into their own crap. Today, most software vendors seem to have learned the lesson. They strive to save their internal data in designated areas instead of dumping it into Documents. (Yet, there's still a fair number of crap-grade vendors like Blizzard or Adobe, who's general professional competence is still stuck back in early 2000's. These simpletons are still doing this.)

The rule is, again, very simple and very indisputable: no storing anything in user's private areas without specific request/permission from the user.

  2. Sadly my pictures library reappeared after an hour or so *Sad

I agree with you, and would very much appreciate it if suppliers would provide options to move such things elsewhere.

I think two reasons for not providing these kind of options... 1) the great unwashed might not understand it and might subsequently mess it up, and 2) IT people are mostly members of the great unwashed *Smile

I'm a little late in the game here, but I think the solution I found at winhelponline might be the answer.
(the link is: How to Remove Camera Roll, Saved Pictures and Screenshots Folders Libraries in Windows 10? )

Or you might just go to winhelponline, and type in a search for 'removing camera roll folder' It was simply a matter of right clicking the folder, going to properties, moving the folder from the C: drive to the D: drive, and clicking apply. The two follow up questions, you hit 'yes' and voila! (Hopefully it will work. At least they are not there as of this moment!)

And to answer those who think it's silly to be adamant about removing those folders, the answer to that is simply, I'm very anal about how I want my folders organized. Some people are very 'chill' about that sort of thing, but some of us just can't help it. Those two folders HAD to go! lol

  5. I understand your frustration, and that definitely can derive from reading the MS support forums. They're about as helpful as offering a cup of sand to a thirsty person. But keep in mind, that people on there are generally your typical user, with just basic experience in Windows, especially Windows 10. There ARE some experienced users, but as stated before, they are there to help in their free time. TenForums is similar, but instead of dealing with dumbass MS techs, you have people who use the software like you, and are learning it instead of just posting links to KB8460230 or whatever, something that doesn't even apply to your problem. If you want a "real" solution and don't want to wait "four weeks," you're more than welcome to Google it yourself.

THANK YOU! This is exactly it! And to think nowadays that many software publishers STILL insist on storing your data in your personal folders. I have quite a few games that do this. They'll store saves and config files in the Documents folder. I don't know why. There's even a "SavedGames" folder Windows creats in the Documents folder, that maybe only two games use. The thing is, nowadays, almost everything has access to a cloud for backup (most game libraries do, like Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc), but local files get shoved into Documents. And you know what's even weirder? I always immediately move my library folders to another hard drive, so I don't have to worry much about them if I do another clean Windows install.... and there will STILL be folders/files saved in C:\User\Documents. It's AGGRAVATING! I think what MS needs to do is to consider what Google does with permissions, actually ASKING you first when an app wants access to certain folders or hardware.

Yep, same here. And the funny thing is, with this new update, I decided to move the Pictures and Videos libraries to another drive where I have files saved, and it's been consistently and insistently creating folders in those folders, annoying the crap out of me.

For those who find these folders a super annoyance, let's 'Super Hide' them.

    - Open the Pictures folder (1)
    - Shift/right click an empty space, choose 'Open Command window here' (2)
    - Open Notepad type attrib +s +h then a space, then add the path of the folder by Shift/right clicking on it and choose 'Copy as Path', add that to the command line, then copy and paste all that into the command window, (as per screenshot), and press Enter (3-4)
    - Close the Command Prompt and refresh the folder. (5)

    attrib +s +h to hide
    attrib -s -h to unhide

Warning: Be sure the folders are not in use and you have to remember the names/path and that they are still there!

  7. I read that you can simply cut those folders from the Pictures library and paste them somewhere else. Windows apparently picks up on this fact that they're in a new place, and will allow them to remain there. I stuck them in my user folder and they haven't reappeared in my Pictures library since.

I know some people aren't bothered by these folders, but they always come up empty on my PC, so I have no use for them.

Worse, Windows 10 blocks access to these folders under some circumstances. I use Paragon to copy my D (data) drive as a ready backup (as opposed to a coded backup) and Robocopy for incremental updates, and both programs get hung up on these folders. I managed to get rid of them for a while, but they've come back now. And when they came back, the old Windows Photo Viewer (which I had been using in 10) was missing once again.

I know it's asking for a lot, but I wish Microsoft would stop fixing things that aren't broken.

I think I found a very simple solution. Try it, then tell me if it works:

Instead of deleting those folders, simply cut and paste them somewhere else, where they will not bother you!

I believe that will make Windows automatically change their default location!

PS: I found out this when I did cut Saved Pictures and pasted it into my Downloads folder, just temporarily, for organization purpose... Soon, I found myself having to delete Saved Pictures folder from my Downloads folder everyday.

imho; simplest, if you use these infrequently, is just hide them (r-click/properties/attributes). You can always unhide if something gets put in them. Why beat your head against a wall or just see them in another location ?

Because some people prefer to see hidden folders and files for default.

In my experience, backup and file copy software and robocopy get hung up on those folders, even when they're empty. I'm guessing it's something to do with default permission for each folder, even though I have administrator privileges. This feels like another example of Microsoft fixing something that wasn't broken.
