Windows 10: Dell BIOS Update - Should I ?

I have had 15-20 Dell laptops and desktops. I have upgraded the BIOS in all of them whenever they were available. Never a single issue. Dell does BIOS updating right in my experience. I would not hesitate.
A lot of times BIOS updates include new features which is always a good thing. *Smile

 

My friend had a problem with her Dell XPS M1530 laptop. She contacted Dell and over the phone they took control of her computer. They updated the BIOS among other things. After that the laptop would not charge the battery. She did not realize that the BIOS update was the problem so she went out and bought a new battery. When that didn't work she asked me to look at it. With one Google search you could see there were many people having the same problem.
I had one heck of a time getting the BIOS to downgrade from A12 to A09. When I tried to run the A09 bios flash I would get a message saying the battery was under 10% charged and could not run. i ended up having to make a DOS boot disk and flash the bios with that. I had to use the /forceit command.
Once the bios were downgraded to A09 the laptop started charging the battery immediately.
So I guess the moral of the story is not all bios updates are good thing. I personally update my bios and never had a problem, but something could always go wrong.

Obviously this isn't an issue for your computer, but some older Dells wouldn't run Windows 8.x at all (and presumably Windows 10) without a BIOS update. After upgrading to Windows 8 they would hang at a black screen.
