Windows 10: Dell M6600 - after Windows 10 upgrade, SD card reader keeps telling me to format card

Good day-


There's an O2Micro SD SCSI card reader in my Dell M6600. It worked great under Windows 7


After upgrading to Windows 10 - it keeps telling me I need to format the SD card I inserted. 4 GB or 32 GB cards, doesn't matter.


"You need ot format the disk in Droive E: before you can use it" wondow pops up - I select "Format Disk"

The Format Removable Disk woinwodw comes up - I select START, clikc OK to go ahead and erase all existing info...

Then I get "Windows was unable to complete the format."


The drive appears in Device manager and under THIS PC.


I've tried uninstalling it and doing a "Scan for Hardware Changes" and I've tried updating the driver. Neither seems to do the trick. And I've tried all the "Just try this" advice from YouTube - no dice

SD card/SD card reader no longer working

Hi. New to this so not sure of category.
I have a Lenovo G70. Windows 10, 64bit
My SD card reader has stopped working.
In Device Manager, the SD card is not listed.
I can't format the card as it is not listed.
I cannot locate the card at all as it is not listed anywhere.
I've tried chkdsk and get 'Cannot open volume for direct access'
I don't even have the icon displaying when micro SD card is inserted.
It did work previously but I had errors. Scanning and fixing did not help.
I place the SD card in my Android phone and it works fine.
Please help!

SD card/SD card reader no longer working

Bradleyb, in your Device Manager do you have anything listed in Storage Controllers? I get an entry for MMC/SD. I just checked a 1GB SD card and a 4GB SDHC card, both worked in File Explorer to show their contents.




Side note: A caveat for such cards is that if they are to be used in a camera they need to be formatted in the camera, not in Windows.

• Are you using an SD card reader? If yes, have you tried using another card reader?
  
• Have you tried formatting the SD card using another computer?
  

In the meantime, we suggest running a hardware diagnostics while your SD card is connected to the computer and see if it helps. Follow the steps below:

• Open Control Panel.
  
• Type Troubleshooting in the search box, then select
  Troubleshooting from the search result.
  
• Click Hardware and Sound.
  
• Select Hardware and Devices to run a hardware diagnostics.
