Dell's Checklist to Determine if Your PC is Ready For Windows 10 Update Builds (Mods Pin?)

Mods may want to pin this,

This is a checklist from Dell to determine if your PC has been tested and approved for the latest Windows 10 Builds. It is recommended to always wait until the offer becomes available to the user through Windows Update for best results.

Remember, that the Windows 10 New Feature update builds are now optional, until the Windows 10 build on your PC is about to expire, at which time, the latest build that is compatible with your PC will be installed automatically.

    Windows 10 PIN Sign-in

    Hi Pat,

It is possible that the PIN set in an earlier build does not work after reinstalling Windows 10. To better assist you, we'd like clarify few things:

    • Which build and version of Windows 10 is installed on your computer?
    • Which build and version of Windows 10 are you using before reinstalling Windows?
    • Have you tried resetting your PIN?
    • Did you get any error messages after you verified the PIN you entered?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow the steps in this
    article
on how you can reset your PIN.

Keep us posted if you need additional help.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Update Windows 10 to the latest build on Dell Vostro 3550

On my Dell Vostro 3550, I have updated from Windows 7 to Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and then finally to Windows 10 when it was launched. I have noticed recently that my machine is not running the latest build and is still running build 10240 which I believe is the release build.

I have tried fixing Windows update errors and updating the system to latest build, but every time it fails without giving much insight to the error. I have checked Dell Website and this model is not listed for November update here.

I want to know if someone has succeeded in updating to Windows 10 on this model and if yes, what steps can I follow to do the same. If the answer is No, please guide me with other available options.
