Windows 10: Desktop background is only displayed and nothing else

Discus and support Desktop background is only displayed and nothing else in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; So as my luck would have it, or lack of, when I came back home after buying a external hard drive to back up my data I found that my PC is now in auto...     What did you do before you left the PC nothing yet when it started this? Still at the point of before when you posted this thread ?

    I just left it on didn't touch any setting, but when I came back it was going through the start up repair. Now its just stuck in this start up repair loop.

    Happen to make a windows 10 disc or USB yet, following some of tutorials mentioned requires you to get back to startup repiar and try to then get to the command prompt, as has something to do with the boot record i think, seen many of this but not many easy solutions. Sometimes hard reset pulling plug. Due to windows update that was either causing the issues or one you have not received that fixes this issue. Have another PC i would get the ISO make a disc or a USB bootable flash drive, disc would be easier if have burning software. Can then also boot from this to try same method.

    tried this method after leaving my PC unplugged for 10 min. didn't work sadly.

    I can do it with windows 10? I don't need Ubuntu. If I can use windows 10 I would rather that method than the 2nd link that I posted as I am not familiar with Linux .

    We were trying to save your files on PC before you tried a clean install is why i wanted you to make a Windows 10 disc if you are then not concerned over loss of those files we can try redoing a clean install. As i wanted to possibly get to a command prompt through the disc if possible. Wishing you read about the upgrade here before you proceeded in the beginning would of saved you the troubles from not backing up files before hand.This should be a regular practice all the time with backups as to what if the Hard Drive goes bad all of a sudden, just some FYI.

    Just recalled something, do you know if your BIOS is UEFI ? Best if when posting here you try to fill in all your system specs for us to see that way we can know what we are dealing with and provide better assistance. As can not boot to advanced options without UEFI BIOS. What i was talking about before clean install https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html

    I decided to use Linux Mint. After mounting it to my Usb I am now copying all my data, making the back up I should have done before hand. But I guess hindsight is 20/20. Anyways I thought I ask is there an easy way of putting back my data, instead of manually placing it back. Like some magical program where if I press a restore button everything will be back where it was before. One can dream right?*Tongue

    I'm semi following what was done in that thread as it is similar to what happened to me. Sadly it seems that they never found a solution to fix that posters problem. And yes I do have UEFI BIOS to answer your question

    Did you notice where it says UEFI, i asked if your BIOS was EFI BIOS as then these methods of booting from the disc to Advanced options will not work.

    Yes I do have UEFI BIOS my motherboard for reference is a asus sabertooth x79

    Ah ok sorry. So I downloaded Linux onto my usb and mounted it. I changed my boot settings from my C drive that contains the windows 10 OS to the USB running Linux in order to copy my data from the hard drives onto an external hard drive.

    Currently I am copying all of my files onto the external hard drive and waiting for that process to be finished. Once my data is copied onto the external I will do a clean install of windows 10.

    Hopefully after that I will be able to place back all my data onto my drives.

    Alright, good luck with that process. Make a Windows 10 disc from link for ISO i had shown and burn it to a disk or need software to make a Bootable USB Flash drive if want to use a flash drive to do a clean install of Windows 10.If that process does not work with files, try to get to the advanced options booting from USB or Disc of Windows 10 when you make it.
