Windows 10: Desktop files gone with OneDrive

One day I was scrolling through YouTube and stumbled upon a Windows 10 opt. video and decided to follow the steps. The video showed a program that debloats Windows 10 and it had an option to remove OneDrive so I clicked on it, because I didn't know it was linked with any of my files on my laptop so I clicked the button to remove it. I waited a little bit and almost every file on my desktop was missing so I restarted my laptop and the files still weren't there. Later I've tried a file recovery program but it didn't help at all. I've been searching for how to fix it, but nothing worked. Things I've tried: Unlink OneDrive, disable Files On-Demand, recovery programs checking all OneDrive folders

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

 

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

Utilities that I run can no longer automatically save files to my OneDrive

To set OneDrive as your default location to save your documents and files, follow the below steps.

1. Click on the OneDrive icon from the Taskbar area > Click on the menu button (three-dots) on the top-right corner > Click on
   Settings > Go to the Auto Save tab.
2. Using the drop-down menu, select OneDrive for
   Desktop, Documents, and Pictures and click on
   OK.
3. Once you complete the above steps, restart the computer once and try saving the files generated from utilities and check if it is saving in
   C:\Users\myname\OneDrive\Documents folder.
