Windows 10: Desktop icons keep rearranging

Discus and support Desktop icons keep rearranging in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Hi Digitall90, do you have ESET Nod32 installed?     Ah, finally understood.
    I believe 32 bit OS's will only have
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32
    whereas 64 bit OS's have that and
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32\

    I only have the first- my OS is 32 bits.

    Note that another solution which only addresses folder view settings, related to a possible size limit of "BagMRU Size", has been proposed (from XP onwards), noting it concerns the number of folders for which Windows holds records.

    Thus it would not correct issues with desktop icons being rearranged.

    I have tried that Bag MRU registry fix and it didn't work in Windows 10.
    Why? Because it's a "Folder View Settings" problem.
    It's not only the desktop that has a problem, but all the folders related to explorer.exe.

    Tried the X64 Reg fix........ STILL NOT WORKING RIGHT!
    (although i did it, i still dont get whats Eset got to do with it....?) _ (& yes i have eset 8 AV)

    Hi, suggest restarting and rechecking the two registry entries are correct if you haven't already.

    It seems (from the other lengthy thread in this forum) that people who use ESET have encountered the two symptoms (desktop icons auto-arranging unexpectedly and folder view settings in explorer not remaining as set) and that ESET confirmed this (thread in ESET's forum referenced in the other thread).

    One person (at least) I noted found the symptoms disappeared when this fix was applied, then recurred. This might suggest ESET (e.g.) has changed them back, or they've been changed by sthg else, or they were not changed when the attempt to apply the fix was made.

    Now this pair of symptoms and each individually has occurred thru several generations of Windows, and a few fixes have been proposed that some people have found to work. Make of that what you will, but searching for 'desktop icons rearranging' for example gives a great many results.

    It may be that the symptoms have more than one cause. For example, one idea from XP onwards was that folder view setitngs were lost if you had more than the preset number of folders. (bagmru size).

    For anyone who has tried the fix recently discovered by ESET users who has problems with desktop icons still being re-arranged, you might like to consider this:

    It looks as if this is ONLY for desktop icons, and you may need to check carefully it applies to Win 10 x86 & x64.

    Hey guys,I've found a solution (just like everybody),but it's totally different than messing with registry keys etc. In the Power Settings,I turned off Fast Startup,which also made my laptop not to shutdown completely before. I'm using Eset Smart Security by the way.

    Hi, glad you found a way round the problem. Could you advise what the two registry keys in the fix (2 assuming 64 bit OS) on your PC contain?

    Thanks- so whatever was causing your desktop icon rearrangement must have been different, since your reg data is correct. There are some different fixes which have been proposed for that by the many people who have experienced symptom that over generations of Windows.

    Yes,that's why I said I made nothing with it. Maybe the uncheck of the Fast startup can help for somebody too.

    Despite the fact that I solved this rearranging thing, shutting down turned into sleep mode again. It's also a well-known issue,but I'm going to discuss it in another thread.
