    Desktop PC Sometimes Difficult To Get Into Sleep Mode


    My 8 year old Acer Aspire desktop was on Windows 7, but the pc was slow and 7 corrupted. I decided to let a knowledgeable friend install a new SSD and a new install of 10. I'm really happy with everything and the new SSD has transformed the speed of the pc.

    There's one problem that is intermittent. A lot of the time I click on START in bottom left and click SLEEP. Half the time it goes to sleep, other times it takes a few attempts. Today I tried 6 times, then gave up and just shut it down. If I try to use sleep on an occasion when it doesn't work, it returns to the first screen I get after start up, which is the screen before the one that asks for my password. Then I have to enter my password to sign in to try sleep again.

    Any ideas, please?

    Thank you for posting on Microsoft community.

    To understand the issue better, I suggest you to answer the below questions.

    • How are trying to start the computer from the sleep mode?
    • Since from when are you facing this issue?
    • Did you make any changes prior to the issue?
    • Are you able to shut down or restart the machine?
    • What happens when you try to come out of Sleep mode?
    I would suggest you to force shutdown the computer and start the computer and check what happens.

    If you are able to login to normal mode then follow the below steps to restore the power setting/plan to default.

    • Press Windows + X keys, and select the option
      Control Panel.
    • Click on the Power Options icon.
    • Click on Change plan settings.
    • Select the option “Restore default settings for this plan”.

    your work and turns off the PC if the battery is too low.
