Windows 10: Desktop Toolbar on Taskbar in Windows 10

I like having the Desktop Toolbar on my Taskbar, which lets me access files / shortcuts on my desktop, without having to Show Desktop, etc...

In Windows 10 it seems like the default shortcut is to my User Profile / Home path, whereas in Windows 7 it used to point to Libraries for me.

I thought there was a way to customize this action, although I may have been getting it mixed up with the File Explorer / Windows Explorer default target when opening, or the user pinned File Explorer on the Taskbar.

If I right click on the File Explorer Properties in Windows 10, I am unable to change the target




I tried creating a custom toolbar for the desktop, like the Quick Access Toolbar, however it does not contain the shortcut button like the Desktop Toolbar does




It was interesting, there is a difference in the two toolbars. the default desktop toolbar actually shows more icons and It was interesting, there is a difference in the two toolbars. The default / built-in Desktop Toolbar actually shows more icons and shortcuts than are actually on my desktop (i.e. HomeGroup, etc.) that I don't have shown on my desktop, whereas the custom desktop toolbar is missing some icons (i.e. This PC, Network, Recycle Bin, etc...)

Does anyone know if this button on the Desktop Toolbar can be customized to point to a different target?

Taskbar height problem

Some suggestions:

1. See if enabling and disabling a toolbar resets the taskbar size.

Right-click Taskbar, Toolbars, and enable Desktop.

Right-click Taskbar, Toolbars, and disable Desktop.

2. Check if an incorrect values are specified in WindowMetrics.

Right-click Start, Run. Type in:

cmd /c reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics" /s |clip

This retrieves all the values under WindowMetrics and copies to clipboard. Post the info here.

3. Update to the latest build of Windows 10.

Edit: Ruled out #3 above, as the Taskbar shows up fine in another user account.

 

Customize Desktop Toolbar

"Desktop" is the TITLE of the "Toolbar" that Microsoft uses... when you right-click the TASKBAR and Select Toolbars > Desktop. i.e the "Desktop" ... Toolbar. I could also say "Links Toolbar"
