Yes, I tried it also. But, on mine it caused problems, double entries on File manager and some other things. I took it off, it is still to early to even try and produce something. Microsoft doesn't even have a clue how it will finally end up.

Even if there is a 3rd party menu, I doubt seriously our household will ever use Windows 10. Just stripped out to many things, and Project Spartan, that is just about useless, you can't even edit book marks. There are so many other bugs, I doubt this will be ready by July.

I personally know about 100 or more people using Windows Eight, and zero of them use a 3rd party start screen. Me and my entire family use Windows Eight religiously and love the Microsoft start screen.

The start-menu was essentially supposed to just find/launch programs and link to "Special Folders".

It's now trying to be the Notification area, System tray, System Clock, Taskbar, Explorer and other things that are found elsewhere on the System and the things that Microsoft and third-parties are doing now with trying to compete in that space such as adding Weather, Emails, Clocks, Colors, Backgrounds, RSS Reader, Flash windows, Live Tiles etc... Is just completely bloating something that really can't handle any of those tasks in any real meaningful or useful way just like the Windows 8 start-screen but now slightly smaller and resizable *Rolleyes

  7. So OK, I've been a BIG critic of the Win10TP Start menu ever since they morphed it into a miniature version of the Start Screen. Why you would want TWO full-screen Start screens seemed silly to me, so I had planned to put Start10 on there, regardless of MS's final plans. After all, there was an MS post saying the Start Menu was all but finished.

Then, I was really surprised to see that with 10122, I can not only remove all the live tiles, I can also shrink down the size of the new Start Menu.

I might stick with this version, after all!

Yeah they really are...look at how many changes with the Windows 10, there have been. Windows 8 style menu, originally accessible, now it is gone. Power off at top, now bottom. Cortana search moved. The Start menu used to have an expand icon, that's gone. Old icons blurry. No transparency, now transparency.... the list just goes on and on, and let us not even talk about Spartan.

I truly believe, they are just trying all sorts of stuff, and not sure what they will finally implement.....thus they are clueless as to how it will end up. That is unless, they are using a crystal ball, that foretells the future. Do you have one they might could borrow?

At this stage of the game, i feel they should be at the fine tuning stage, and clearly the differences, from the last build to this are note-worthy.

  10. And we all know that Windows 8 was loved by everyone and flew off of the shelves faster than bread and milk in a hurricane.
I don't know whose payroll you are on but you talk tripe. Windows 8 was a total absolute failure for Microsoft. The very reason it did not sell is there was no start menu and Joe the public was lost. I think you are a Microsoft shrill.

  12. No I use it on virtual machines. Updating a couple of them at the moment. I don't think (my opinion yours is different) Windows 10 is ready to be installed on any of my machines. I am sure the free upgrade is a trap. Decided when they killed media center and still have not given Windows 10 a nice aero look I'll stick with my Windows 7 Ultimate as it is vastly superior.

    True Launch Bar for $20.
True Launch Bar Superior replacement for standard Quick Launch

I create a few icons in TLB, drag and drop my desktop shortcuts into them and can easily launch whatever program I want.

As for the Start menu for Win10, it works fine. It is just that (like 3rd party Start Button replacements) most people don't realize that the app box flyout can be completely emptied, turning the Start Menu into something that is close to the original. It still lacks enough that third party replacements will be handy.

Why is that? After all, you very recently said:

Piecing together the Windows as a Service puzzle for Windows 10

So why are you doing the opposite of what you said?

I mean, you're perfectly free to do whatever you want, but why make such dramatic pronouncements, and then immediately do the exact opposite?

You have a source for this info or are you just guessing. I also disagree with your speculation.
