Detailed help moving to a new account? LONG

I have performed a new Full Windows 10 installation. The computer is using a 512 Samsung SSD for Drive C, 1TB WD Black for D: (Data) and another 256 SSD for Cloud files.
Most things work fine and all my applications work fine.
Several Microsoft Apps just flash for a second and nothing.
    Search Bar/Cortana
    Calculator
    Photo Viewer
    Contact Support
    Feedback

I have tried the Upgrade Repair and both SFC and DISM Cleanup-Image are now clean.

We created a new account to see if it was an account issue. All the Apps worked under the new account.

Microsoft Level 2 offered to remote in, create a new account and move everything to it.
When he finished the Microsoft Apps worked. All of my applications had lost their drive mapping and could not find their data. When started they acted like they were newly installed and asked for keys. The desktop and taskbar had lost all customizations.

Is it possible to move everything to a new account and have everything exactly as it was on the old one?
If so, is it possible to get back to the same account name you started with?

    Thank You

  2. Moving a storage device to a whole new set of hardware

Indeed it would because it's a new installation.

If your existing version of Windows is a Retail installation rather than a pre-installed OEM version then you can use its product key on the new machine.

  3. Moving a storage device to a whole new set of hardware

You can certainly move the SSD but Windows will not run for these reasons:

    • Invalid product key. All Windows product keys are tied to the hardware (CPU, motherboard etc.)
    • Invalid HAL. The correct Hardware Abstraction Layer gets established at installation time. It will be incorrect when moving the disk to different hardware.

If your old user profile was not deleted, under C:\Users\[YourOldUserName] then you can login to that profile. When you restart, does it show the old profile on the login screen? Be aware, the old profile is corrupted and will not work correctly.
When they moved your files to the new profile, did they show Hidden Files? Did they also copy the hidden AppData directory under the user name? AppData holds all of the applications mappings, temp file and keys etc,
In File Explorer, go to the Toolbar to View put a check box in Hidden Files, this will make them Viewable. Browse to C:\Users Is your old user profile still available? If so, Copy the AppData directory and Paste it into your New Profile name. This is a large directory and may take some time. Do not copy the Hidden files NTUser.dat, NTUser.dat.log, NTUser.ini in your user profile.

So many things were broken that we gave up and I just restored from backup. Now we are back to square 1 with everything working except the Microsoft apps. I am really not sure what the Level 2 guy did or did not do. He spoke like he was very experienced in moving accounts.
Today I finally got back in touch with a different Level 2 person. Clearly she did not have a clue or read the case. Just like level 1 she wanted to do a Repair Install. Then she said it looks like some of your applications must be incompatible with Windows 10. Funny that they ALL work fine. Its just the Microsoft Apps that are broken. I asked for a Level 3 callback but she refused.

Given that Microsoft seems unable to move the profile and applications to a new account, would I be better off trying to do it myself using detailed instructions? This procedure must be documented somewhere.
    Thanks again.

Both profiles should be listed in the Login Window, you can login to either one. It is very simple. If you Copy the files to the new profile, not cut and paste, and you want to go back to the other profile, just log out as the new user and login to the old user.

Just copying the contents of the C:\users\xxx to the new C:users\xxx is all there is to it? All of my data Microsoft folders Document, Photos, etc. are mapped to D:. Is this system or user specific? Desktop will stay the same? Also some applications are installed on D:. Is this an issue?

After the move would it be possible to delete and recreate the original account and move back to it in order to keep the name?

Level 2 worked on this for about 20 minutes and literally nothing worked or was the same. I am just trying to understand how they missed it so badly if it really is this easy.

    Thanks again for your time.
