  1. Devices Disappeared from Family Safety

    Hello,

I work for a non-profit where we use Microsoft Family Safety to limit users access to certain websites. We had added a new account to our 25+ devices 1 year ago. They all appeared on the device list and had family safety activated. Out of our 25+ devices, only 3 appear on the device list as of today. We're stumped as to how so many devices have been removed from the device list thus the family safety and now have open internet access.

    • They are all logging in using a Microsoft account, not a local account
    • Family safety is activated and shows it's limiting websites
    • "Age" of the account is 13 which is what we want
    • None of the people using the devices have the admin password to change family safety settings and neither me nor my supervisor had removed these devices from the device list
    • All devices are Windows 7 or 10

What's interesting is that in our "family" we also have a second account. Most if not all devices show up in the device list for that account, but not the one listed above. All 25+ devices have both accounts. Both accounts have the same settings on the admin and device ends, the only difference is which websites are allowed on each account.

What would be the reason that so many devices have been removed from the family safety on one account but not the other in the same family and how can we fix this? We'll accept a work around, but we're more looking for the root cause of the issue and a viable solution.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Family Safety - add device to child profile

Since this is the case and you have ensured the settings are correctly setup in family Safety, we suggest that you sign in using your main account and remove you child's account from Family Safety list. (Refer to the image below for reference.)

After completing the steps, attempt to use the email address of your child to login to the computer and see if the same error message still shows up. If the error no longer shows up, we suggest that you attempt to add the account back then to Family safety.

    Regards.

    Family Safety Not Changing

    Hello,

We regret for the inconvenience. Let me assist you.

From the description provided, I understand that the screen time usage is inaccurate for the child account/s you are referring to.

Please follow the below suggested methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

    Method 1

Now, as an initial recommendation, I suggest you to view and check the family settings for the child by signing in to the Microsoft account using a web browser.

    Account security and Online safety.

    https://account.microsoft.com/privacy

You may change the More security settings under account security and
family safety settings/Manage permissions for children under Online safety in the above link.

    Method 2

If it still does not help, I suggest you to remove the child account from your Microsoft Family Safety settings and check if it is the Family Safety feature which is preventing the child account to access Office products.

    Follow the below steps.

    • From a web browser, go to
      http://account.microsoft.com/family
and sign in with the Microsoft account of an adult in the family.

    • To remove a child, choose Remove at the top of the section labeled
Select a child to view or edit their settings.
    • Select the person you want to remove from the family
    • Select the Remove button that appears when you've chosen the person to remove.
Ref: How do I turn off family features?

    Method 3

    • Open the File Explorer, navigate to the location:

      C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls
    • Inside the Parental Controls folder, delete all contents including any files and folders.
    • Sign out and then sign in again to re-build the setting data.

Additionally, I also suggest you to visit to the below link on Family Safety

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/family

Refer to the section Set limits for your child.

Also refer to the section 'How can I tell if the Family Safety service is connected to my PC and set up correctly?' in the article provided.
