Did a Windows update just brick my laptop?

My Toshiba Satellite laptop completely died before my very eyes this morning.

My browser began running slower and slower until the screen just froze. I tried to reboot, but with the frozen display the start menu refused to come up when I clicked the little window icon in the lower left corner.

Tried control/alt/delete but no response there either.

Finally, in desperation, I elected to go with a hard boot, mashing down the power button until the display went dark. But after giving it 30 seconds to settle down. the machine would not power up at ALL.

Still won't. I've unplugged the AC and am leaving the top open in hopes of draining the battery to see if that will help, but at this point I'm not very optimistic.

Sure would like to recover the files at least.

    Suggestions?

    :)

    BIOS update bricks laptop

    Hey everyone,

Last night I wanted to update my bios which lead to the laptop bricking and wouldn't turn off until the battery finally died. I tried plugging it in afterwards but the laptop would neither charge nor turn on. I tried every trick in the book, but the laptop would not charge or turn on. Nothing. I read online that this could be due to a corrupt bios chip. I want to replace it, but considering the laptop won't turn on at all, does this also mean the motherboard is damaged? I read online that the motherboard cannot be ruined from a bad bios update so I'm hoping I just need to replace the bios chip as it is a cheaper solution than replacing the entire board. Can anyone recommend what to do? Any advice would be really really helpful. Thanks.
