Windows 10: digital license worthless without key from box?

I moved to the other end of the world about 10 years ago and the pc that I brought me started to have problems and needed some new hardware.

it ran on Win10 (free upgrade from Win7, not an OEM pc) activated and linked to my account (digital license).


after changing the hardware, I was unable to reactivate (0x803fa067). after trying for a week, I called support who

asked me for a key from a box. I explained that windows 7 was bought 10 years ago, on the other side of the planet

and that I do not have a box anymore, but that the windows was activated and linked to my MS account.

but she flat out refused any help unless I provide a win7 key from a retail box.

the line was very poor so I had difficulties hearing her and while my English may not be perfect, hers was

less than stellar and she sounded extremely unfriendly from the get go. I was wondering if she was just trying to

get rid of me ASAP or whether it is true that there is no way I can use this license anymore?


what's the point in forcing me online, linking accounts to keys and a pin for login, etc.?

Thanks for your suggestion. I solved the problem with my License Key with Belarc Advisor Software. The Digital License code was a numeration that Microsoft Corporation has given to all that have Windows Account specially to those that has free upgraded
to Windows 10. Under the Digital License appears the original code.

When you upgraded from a previous version of Windows or receive a new computer preinstalled with Windows 10, what happened is the hardware (your PC) will get a digital entitlement, where a unique signature of the computer will be stored on Microsoft
Activation Servers. The Windows 7 or Windows 8 genuine license you were previously running will be exchanged for a diagnostics key.

Anytime you need to reinstall Windows 10 on that machine, just proceed to reinstall Windows 10. It will automatically reactivate. You will prompted to enter a product key a couple times through the installation, click I don't have
a key and Do this later.

There is no need to know or get a new key, but if you have issues with Digital Licensing or the Activation Troubleshooter, you can utilize an existing Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product key you already own to
reactivate if necessary. or use the reset function in Windows 10.
