    DirectX installation fails - any ideas how I can get it installed?

    So I got a new laptop recently:


    Acer Aspire 5

    Windows 10 Home

    i7-8550U

    8GB RAM

    Nvidia GeForce MX150


    It's not intended for gaming but I figured I could play some games casually and on lower settings which I don't mind. Also seen reviews for the MX150 card and the performance isn't back for the tier.


    So, I've got steam installed and I installed some games from backup. Tried to play, and immediately I'm met with errors of missing DirectX DLL files. Reinstalled the game from scratch (uninstalled and allowed steam to download it). Re-installed steam as well. Research pointed me toward re-installing DirectX. Now I've downloaded the installer for DirectX but it keeps failing. I've tried both the web installer and the June 2010 installer which does contain the missing files

    but the install always fails with error:


    "An internal system error occurred.

    Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problem".



    This is the only text contained in the DXError.log file

    And the DirectX.log file just has a whole lot of lines indicating that some DLLs are installed already. I've included a few lines from that log below, although there a whole lot more. The first line here seems to indicate an error but I'm not sure what problem that would point to. Any help to get this sorted out would be appreciated. Or a point toward an actual solution. I have searched around the solutions so far that I've seen from others have not worked. I've already tried copying one dll file into my System32 folder but all that did was take me as far as the next missing file which isn't the best way to go about resolving this.

    DirectX installation failed

    Thank you for the update. Please verify if DirectX June 2010 is being offered via Windows Update. If your computer is already running DirectX 12, it has backwards compatibility with the previous version of DirectX. Moreover, you may also want to consider
    performing the suggested steps in this article.

    Windows Updates failed to instal

    I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
