Windows 10: Disable automatic maintenance?

I hope Microsoft will add a simple way to disable automatic maintenance, just like what they did in Windows 8.1.

 

I've figured out a way to disable background automatic maintenance tasks which will use high cpu cycles and ssd thrashing, which will reduce laptop/ultrabook battery faster and makes it much hotter and louder when your system is idle. I was looking for some help but nothing is available. I had to do my own testing and found a solution.
Solution:
-Go to Task Scheduler and disable the following tasks and sub-tasks
-File History
-DiskCleanup
-Defrag
-Maintenance
-Windows Defender
-Application Data\DsSvcCleanup
-Chkdsk
-MemoryDiagnostic
-MUI
-Power Efficiency Diagnostic
I had figured this solution out because I noticed every time my ultrabook is idle for about 2 minutes and the fan kicking in and it was getting extremely hot. I then monitor the system resources to see which tasks was using the most resources during idling. First thing was Defender is the main culprit and another was System which includes other tasks falls under it as well. I disabled them one by one until my system no longer perform automatic maintenance in the background while idling for about 2 minutes or more.

There you go! Make your laptop/ultrabook happy and increase battery life and laptop life span by disabling these background tasks. Microsoft needs to stop automatic maintenance tasks when your laptop/ultrabook is running on battery power... Can someone contact MS and inform them to update the maintenance tasks to run only when on AC/plugged in power?

You are getting close. There is more to just that one. Read my reply to this post. I had a solution for this problem.

 

It's hard to believe that 10 tasks are involved with the idle problem. You went through the bother of disabling them one by one. Shouldn't you have arrived at a much shorter list?

 

I disabled these tasks and surely the laptop works better, but the automatic maintenance is still working (I notice the last run from security and maintenance page). Is there a final solution to stop automatic maintenance as for windows 8? Thanks all

 

I'm not 100% sure, but I might have found the task. It is found under:
Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnosis --> "Scheduled"

I was trying to disable the individual tasks that automatic maintenance would run by manually starting the maintenance and checking which additional task were run in task scheduler. While I was browsing the folders for each task, I came across the one above, and the last time it ran was a few minutes ago (i.e. when I manually start the maintenance). I went ahead and manually started the maintenance again to see if the "Last Run Time" would change accordingly and it did.

Also, the description says, "The Windows Scheduled Maintenance Task performs periodic maintenance of the computer system by fixing problems automatically or reporting them through Security and Maintenance."

Again, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm going to try disabling it and see.

Ok I will try! U would disable all these tasks also for battery life: with windows 8.1 I reached 4.30h, now maximum 2.30h! I'll keep you posted

 

History for "Diagnosis" here shows last run on 10/21. Before that, 10/19.

For me, disabling the two tasks under Microsoft -> Windows -> MemoryDiagnostic has stopped it! Went through the last run history of each task to find it.
Great; no more noisy laptop fan without my consent.
