  1. Disable Bugcheck / Increase Timeout for THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD

    Hello!

I am not here to debug this problem, as I am already aware that my GPU is failing after extensive and exhaustive amounts of debugging. However, seeing as this is a notebook, I have no way of actually fixing the problem, so I decided to do thestupid bold thing of ignoring Windows' protests and bypass the bugcheck instead of allowing it to crash the OS.

Now, I realize what I'm asking is potentially not possible, and absolutely inadvisable, but I am aware of the risks and am more than willing to take them.

Let me be a bit more specific:

For a long time now, I've been receiving inconsistent THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER 0xEA BSODs, but only when I use the discrete GPU of my god-awful laptop. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, sometimes it happens trice in a row.

Now, I've been digging very deep into the debugging mud and I realize that the module that's throwing the bugcheck is the DirectX Kernel, specifically after setting up a timed event. What this has lead me to believe is that my GPU is probably running so poorly and so slowly that it's always scraping the limit of the timeout that calls for the building to come down, occasionally being just a bit too slow for Windows' taste, and that's when it fails.

So with all of this in mind, I would like to increase the timeout of DirectX's timed events to give my poor GPU some room to recover by itself. Alternatively, I could do withskipping the bugcheck entirely, if at all possible, because if I understand the problem correctly the entire system hangs until the thread is free, which means I would simply have to wait for it to sort itself out instead of having to go through a reboot that would take me probably over 10 minutes to get back to what I was doing which is probably playing a game.

I have already tried to set the TDR registry keys to allow for more generous timeouts, to no avail. I don't know whether DirectX even uses those registries, or any registries at all. This whole thing might be pointless, but at this point these bluescreens are more annoying than concerning. I know my computer is busted, and nothing is going to un-bust it.

I'm also not glossing over the possibility that this BSOD is strictly necessary, or else it wouldn't even exist.

Thank you for reading this far, and I appreciate any and all answers!

    :)

    Bsod - thread_stuck_in_device_driver

It's been a while since I've posted to the forums, where fortunately I haven't had issues with my old build.

Unfortunately, on this Ryzen 5 build (Windows 10, Version 1909, OS Build 18363.752), we've been getting a lot of Windows 10 freezing, along with too many too count BSOD with the THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER message.

Below are both the system info and V2 dump:

    • Ryzen5BSOD-SystemInfo.zip
    • RYZEN5-(2020-04-08_19-22-00).zip

    Many thanks in advance.

  4. Disable Bugcheck / Increase Timeout for THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER BSOD

    THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER - Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    • Do let us know if the issue is confined only while accessing the game?

The THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER bug indicates that a thread in a device driver is endlessly spinning. A device driver is spinning in an infinite loop, most likely waiting for hardware to become idle. This usually indicates problem with the hardware itself,
or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Frequently, this is the result of a bad video card or a bad display driver.

I suggest you to follow the below steps.

    Update the display driver

Steps to update the drivers for the Display Adapter.

    • Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
    • Select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display Adapter.
    • Right click on the
      Display Adapter
and click on Update Driver Software.

Refer to the below article by Andre Da Costa to install the drivers manually on your device.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of this issue for further assistance.
