Windows 10: Disable feature updates (upgrades)

Currently I have "regular" updates disabled via GP (and occasionally I do a manual check, which then downloads and installs them).

1. Does this setting also stop feature updates (like the upcoming "Creators update") from being automatically downloaded and installed?
2. If I do a manual check when a feature update is available, will it be downloaded and installed, just like the regular updates?

I assume the answer to both is YES, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

So, is there perhaps a separate setting that would let me block feature updates permanently, while still allowing me to install regular updates like I'm doing now?
I know there's a "defer updates" option, but that only delays them, it's not a permanent block.

I don't believe anyone from Microsoft posts on these forums. I think they are all volunteers and to their credit I have never seen them censor or delete any post, no matter how uncomplimentary they might be towards Microsoft.

You cannot stop feature updates alone. Any stopping updates procedure will also stop security updates.

 

Hi, I find this convenient. (Check for updates, then apply the option).




Defer features and updates can defer for months. (E.g. Pro not Home). That should give plenty of time to assess the Creator's Upgrade.

Or, create /update your disk image, upgrade, try it, if problematic, roll back or, worst case, restore your disk image.

I would expect the answer to 1&2 to be yes - there are various GPO options.

 

I'd rather not use 3rd party tools and I don't see anything related to feature updates there, anyway.

I might try with WUshowhide, though. I'm guessing that could work for permanently hiding a feature update.

 

Then you can go to the site and see how it's done via GP or regedit. (Link on the tool as you can see).
