Windows 10: Disable TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 for RDP

Microsoft Edge TLS Security

After trying everything (not a lot of steps) listed in the Microsoft Edge support site, I did a wider search and found this very simple youtube video that fixed it immediately:

For those who prefer not to click links the steps are simple:

1. Click in the Cortana search bar next to the Win 10 Start button

2. Type internet options

3. Select internet options (control panel) from the list

4. Click on the advanced tab

5. Scroll down to the security section

6. Make sure the following are all clicked:
Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0
Use TLS 1.1
Use TLS 1.2

7. Click apply

8. Refresh the page that was giving the error and it should now connect.

Hope this helps, it was a 30 second fix after hours of pounding my head against the error with the Support site suggestions.

TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 soon to be disabled by default in Microsoft Edge

As announced in October of 2018, Microsoft will soon disable Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 by default in Microsoft browsers. In light of current global circumstances, we will be postponing this planned change—originally scheduled for the first half of 2020.

For the new Microsoft Edge (based on Chromium), TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are currently planned to be disabled by default no sooner than Microsoft Edge version 84 (currently planned for July 2020).

For all supported versions of Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Legacy (EdgeHTML-based), TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 will be disabled by default as of September 8, 2020.

While these protocols will remain available for customers to re-enable as needed, we recommend that all organizations move off of TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 as soon as is practical. Newer versions of the TLS protocol enable more modern cryptography and are broadly supported across modern browsers, such as the new Microsoft Edge.

TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 support will be discontinued on September 24, 2020

Microsoft builds and supports a variety of software products for Linux systems and makes them available via package repositories on packages.microsoft.com. To support modern security standards, packages.microsoft.com will discontinue support for package downloads over Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 protocols as of September 24, 2020. This means that any connection using these protocols will no longer work as expected, and no support will be provided. In order to continue to access packages from packages.microsoft.com after that date, organizations will need to enable TLS 1.2 (or a later version). Where possible, Microsoft recommends that organizations remove all TLS 1.0 and 1.1 dependencies in their environments and disable TLS 1.0/1.1 at the operating system level.
