Windows 10: disable touchpad

Windows 10, HP laptop, Pavilion

I cannot find the best forum for this question and was directed here.

I cannot keep my fingers off the touchpad, and cannot uninstall it. Here are the steps I have taken. Please advise as to what I should do differently.

Hold down the Windows key and press X

Click Device Manager

Open item Mouse and other pointing devices to reveal: ELAN Clickpad

Click on ELAN Clickpad and select tab Driver

Click button Uninstall Device

At the warning dialog, enable the checkbox: Delete the driver software for this device

Click Uninstall

A progress bar is displayed and completes. A new dialog is presented stating:

To finish removing the device you must restart your computer.

Do you want to restart your computer now.

Save this file and Select Yes.

The laptop shuts down and restarts.

After restart, drag my finger across the touchpad. The mouse follows my finger. The driver has not been uninstalled.

Turn the computer OFF and restart. Same results.

Repeat at least three times. Same results.

How can I disable this touchpad?

If it is a tablet, the touchpad will not be disabled as a design. For more accurate information, we suggest that

Disable touchpad

Normally, you can disable the touchpad from Device Manager by follow the steps below:

• Go to Device Manager.
• Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
• Right-click on HID-compliant mouse and select Disable.
• Click Yes.
• Check if the touchpad is already disabled.

You can also contact the device manufacturer for further assistance if touchpad cannot be disabled.

• Right click on Synaptic touchpad driver and select Disable.
