  2. Disabling Avira

Muchomurka - your Windows Defender suggestion sounded promising to me. I found three AVIRA entries listed in Inbound Rules in Advanced Security, whose ENABLED status I could change to DISABLED. I can but hope that that does the job.

Incidentally it has alerted me to the possibility of disabling the numerous other entries that are irrelevant to me, but presumably consuming resources.

    Avira Antivirus

Windows cannot send updates due to Avira Antivirus (not Aviva) - they suggest uninstalling Avira but it is not listed and I am not aware that I ever downloaded it. Presume its some sort of malware - any suggestions please if anyone has had the same problem
    - thank you

    p060477,

marsmimar's suggestion, based on that of others, is a very good step to take.

*Arrow If the problem still remains, then, your best bet is to go to the Avira support forum. Avira is the best source to solve this issue. It IS their program, they know best what problems exist, and they are the ones who can actually do something about it!
