Windows 10: Disabling "Turn on convenience key PIN sign-in" doesn't work.

I used gpedit.msc to update the computer's turn on convenience key PIN sign-on from "Not Configured" to "Disabled" but disabling it didn't work. I expected it to override all accounts' abilities to use pins. I tested that a user could still sign on with a pin. I even rebooted and verified setting was still "Disabled" when I logged back in.


This is a security problem because pins are easier to figure out than good passwords. I also figured out kids in the family are using this to get around family time limits by going into other peoples' accounts, so it isn't just hypothetical


Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Systems > Logon > Turn on convenience key PIN sign-in.


Expected behavior: Changing to "Disabled" prevents users from logging on with pin.

Actual behavior: Changing to "Disabled' has no effect.


I also don't want to remove pins for certain family members from the Microsoft account. I just want to disable it from being used on this computer.

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

Remove sign in pin

I suggest you to follow the below steps to remove the sign in pin/password options.

• In the search box type sign-in-option.
• Click on the sign-in-option.
• Then you can find password/pin/picture password.
• There you can remove the option and check.

Want to sign on with PIN instead of Password

Glad to know that the Pop up with the password manager is disabled with the above suggestion.

Try the below suggestions to fix the issue with Signing in using PIN authentication.

Steps 1: Launch the File Explorer.

Step 2: Browse to this location, and delete the contents of the folder.

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

Step 3: Go to Settings (Press Windows
and I key), Accounts > Sign in Options.

Step 4: Click on Add a PIN and set your PIN.

Step 5: Restart the computer and check the status of the issue.
