Windows 10: Disk part failed to clear disk attributes

Discus and support Disk part failed to clear disk attributes in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; Could my harddisk be corrupt? I would say it is a kind of "Software Locked" or something like that, if this exists at all. Discussion in 'Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware' started by Camilla, Aug 11, 2016.

  2. Ok, try this:

Pick Advanced option > Command Prompt

    Enter the following commands

    diskpart
    lis dis
    lis vol
    exit
lis dis is shorthand for list disk - it will tell you if you have more than one disk installed

lis vol is shorthand for list volume - it lists the volumes it can see

I don't know how to help upload an image - I only occasionally use a mobile device.
Unfortunately this means that you have to type what you see - I don't need all of the text, just the relative info.
I struck the stuff you don't need to type and bolded the stuff I want to see (red is important)

    DISKPART> lis dis

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
    Disk 0 Online 596 GB 130 GB

If there is an astersik in the GPT column - that is important - it tells me the way the disk was initialized (MBR or GPT)

    DISKPART> lis vol

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
    ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
    Volume 0 U DVD-ROM 0 B No Media
Volume 1 System Rese NTFS Partition 500 MB Healthy System
Volume 2 C 10 Boot NTFS Partition 40 GB Healthy Boot
Volume 3 D 10 Data NTFS Partition 10 GB Healthy

You can shorthand some of it
    vol # for Volume #
    NTFS for NTFS Partition
    Sys for System

Using the above example, this should suffice in shorthand

vol 1 Sys NTFS 500 MB Sys
If the Status column is helathy, you can exclude that unless it is NOT healthy

What I'm looking for is the System and Boot information.
The size might matter, but I don't think so with the issue on your machine.

Any chance you could ask a friend to let you use their machine to create some utility disks?

These two would be very helpful to have (each fit on a CD):

MiniTool Free Bootable Partition Manager | Partition Wizard Bootable CD
This is the utility that will help the most ... it will at least allow you to look at the disks, partitions, and volumes.

is it also possible to download that program to a usb stick? and let it run from that?

    WAIT!
It seems there is no Boot Partition in your System.
Please, at Command Prompt, like you did for DiskPart, type BCDEDIT and post here a screen shot

Yes, but I'm not sure how to combine the two *Eek

I thought you might end up doing that - I tried to change the wording ... but

To be honest, I'm not sure what you have now on the CD ... each utility has it's own boot, which might be different, but both might work off the same boot - not sure.

I'll come back to that after reading more of your posts. We might have to use the utilities to sort things out.

  10. Yes, you will have to burn 2 CDs.

You put the ISO on the CD and not the contents of the ISO. It's not a priority at the moment.
What OS is on your neighbors PC - Win8 and Win10 have native burning software
Right click one ISO in file explorer

If you look on the CD and there is just an ISO - something's not quite right. Table the utility CD project for now.

    Otherwise ...
Put a new blank CD in the drive
    Right click the other ISO
    Pick Burn image
let it do it's job - the CD will be ejected - label it
You can do that at your leisure ... I'll probably be off the forum the rest of the night

Two things I'd like to see in Command Prompt before using the utility disks:

Using the drive letters in your lis dis shot

    1) A listing of the Acer partition
    c:
    cd \
(prompt should now be C:\ >)

    dir /a

    cd Windows
    dir /w
    2) Boot code from the Acer partition (might not exist)

    bcdedit /store C:\boot /enum

If you want to try something easy:

    Diskpart
    lis vol

    Sel vol 1

    Active
    exit

    Then try to boot normally

  11. Thought of one other thing you should do while you have the borrowed laptop.

    Download the current Win10 ISO:

Option One: To Directly Download a Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft
Then use that USB thumbdrive you wanted to use for the other utilities to make it usable on your machine.

Use "Rufus" to create Bootable Window 10 USB for Legacy BIOS and UEFIs
You already downloaded the ISO, so you can skip Step 1
Do steps 2-4 (Rufus prep) tehn follow
Step 7. To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive for Installing Windows 10 using Legacy BIOS (without UEFI)

I'm not sure just setting the Active flag will be enough, so you're getting the Win10 1607 install media in case it's needed to repair Windows.
