Windows 10: Disk running at 100%

Good day

I read through a lot of discussions about above mentioned subject.


I have a HP I5 7th gen laptop

2GB nvidia 940mx

8GB Ram

1TB HDD

Windows 10


I have spent a lot of hours on trying to fix the 100% disk usage issue.

From what i can remember i did the following:

Check disk f

Check disk r

Net.exe stop diagtrack

Net.exe stop superfetch

Net.exe stop windows search

Net.exe stop sysmain


Uninstalled some games and programmes

Unistalled skypewhich for some reason appeared on my system, logged in etc

Uninstalled chrome


Restarted and defragged disk

Set power options to high performance

Disabled windows defender right after i ran a virus scan

Reset virtual memory

Updated windows and drivers

Changed PCI Firmware Device Parameters\Interrupt Management\MessageSignaledInterruptProperties

Changed from 1 to 0


Ran a program to check hard drive health.


Even elevated the laptop for more ventilation

But still no luck. Some of the things i tried i can't even remember


Had this laptop for 2 years now. Always keeping it clean and making sure its dust free. Most of the time.


I have no idea what more i can do


If anyone know anything about the solution, sharing your knowledge will be much appreciated

Disk Usage at 100% with nothing running

My PC is running Windows 10 with the latest updates but has suddenly become unusable with disk usage staying at 100% even with nothing running and just the same processes listed in Task Manager as before the problems
started. I've tried a few suggestions found in online forums - disabling Windows Search and Superfetch, adjusting page file size, etc. but nothing has done the trick yet. I don't have any outside anti-virus software installed. I read about the potential MSI
issue but don't have IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers listed in the Device Manager. Finally, it seems to boot up normally and will have periods where the disk usage drops and it's usable but those moments are brief and it inevitably goes back up to 100% usage.

 

Clean install, disk usage at 100%

I've seen that article. and I am in fact not running that driver. I followed the steps and it does not appear in the list.

In the Task Manager, under Performance tab, the disk utilization reaches to 100% due to which system became lagging and unresponsive. It started freezing in few moments and this keeps happening until disk usage reduces from 100%.

Control panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management > Maximum Processor state.

Also, once I start Chrome 64, it uses lots of cpu and ram to do absolutely nothing.

This is caused by a common combination of Skype as well Google Chrome. Similar issue with other programs could also cause 100% disk usage. To fix this do the following
