Windows 10: Display Adapter Competing With Microsft Basic Display Leads to Crashes

Display Driver Issue. I have an HP desktop, kind of old. I'm using Windows 10. I am supposed to be using an AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series display adapter. However, when it is enabled, it seems to be competing with Microsoft Basic Display. I get a black screen when AMD is enabled. I then have to go into SafeMode, and disable AMD. Then, with Basic, everything works fine. But, the moment I try to enable AMD = black screen.


This is important because Basic alone does not provide the high resolution I got from AMD. I have a big screen, and Basic's best resolution sucks. It gives me headaches, literally, and makes me feel dizzy after 15 minutes.


HP does not have a driver for Windows 10, however, Microsoft's website suggests that Windows Update should automatically fix this. As noted above, Windows Update has not fixed this issue.


This problem started one week ago. Before then, I would simply wait for Windows to reinstall AMD, then I would uninstall it - my good resolution would remain, but AMD would be gone. All would work well. I am assuming some genius kid at Microsoft tried to do something intelligent with a Windows Update recently, leading to the present annoying problem.

Basic Display Adapter

I have a problem in which ProPresenter 5 won't play videos, I've contacted that company and came up empty handed.

In the DxDiag Box, it shows that I have the Basic Display Adapter running in Display 1, but Display 2 & 3 are using the Geforce GTX I have installed. Would it help to change the Basic Display Adapter to the Geforce card in Display 1?

If so how would I change that?

This problem wasn't a issue when I changed to Windows 10.

 

No Display after Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

• Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
• Select Device Manager.
• Expand Display Adapter.
• Right click on the Display Adapter and click on

10, try to install the drivers in compatibility mode.

Step 3: Follow the below steps to
place the computer in normal mode.

• Press Windows + R keys to open
  Run command.
• Type msconfig and press
  Enter.
• In the System Configuration window, click on
  General tab.
• Select Start-up selection as
  Normal startup, click on Apply
  and Ok.
• Follow onscreen instructions.
