Display Setting issue after connecting DP

So I am sorry to ask this but its got me beaten so far.

I have an Win 10 Lenovo laptop - very modern and capable.

I bought some screens for it and as they were cheap they are not HDMI so I got some VGA-HDMI cables and they work fine and I run with 1920x1080 resolution.

    All good so far

I wanted to run 2 screens rather than one and so found a Dell Display Port in my big box of IT kit and so using the HDMI cable I had plugged into my laptop, I left the VGA end plugged to the monitor, plugged the HDMI end into the DisplayPort and then plugged the display output cable into a USB port...sure enough I got a display but only a very poor 640x480 resolution. In display settings there is no option to change this....grey'ed out

So rather than mess about too much I disconnected it and plugged the hdmi back into my laptop.

From this point on I get nothing on my monitor. Display settings cannot detect it. I plugged another screen in and its fine.

Its like the monitor has been told you are to run at 640x480 and as my laptop minimum is 800x600 it no longer recognises the monitor.

    I tried swapping cables

    I updated drivers

I tried a factory reset on the monitor

    reboot the laptop

plugged it into another (identical) monitor and its OK

plugged a different laptop in and it is the same - no display

only when I use the displayport now do I get an image and just a poor one

    The monitor is a hanns-g HE225

    Any ideas?

As Im writing this I am seeing that the issue surely is with the Monitor

    :)

  2. Sudden Triple Monitor Issue - The display settings could not be saved

    Okay couple of suggestions here...
First off I'm gonna start with the basics and tell you to go to amd website and reinstall the drivers. (Remove them first)

Second I would say look and see if the monitor is faulty. Plug it into one of the other ports and obviously see if it works.

Third, I would probably go ahead and replace the card considering you have had It for 3 years. I would suggest an EVGA GTX 750 TI for about 150$

Issue with connecting Dual monitor with Wireless Display Adapter

    Hi Penny Wells,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I can understand the situation must be difficult for you when things do not work as they should. However, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer?
    2. What is the model of the TV?

This issue can occur if there is pending firmware update or the issue with the drivers. I would suggest you to follow the below steps and let us know about the results:

Method 1: Fix connections to wireless displays or docks.

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in the Microsoft article on
Fix connections to wireless displays or docks.

Method 2: Troubleshooting Wireless Display Adapters.

If method 1 doesn’t fix the issue, I would suggest you to follow all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the Microsoft article on
    Troubleshooting Wireless
    Display Adapters
refer the steps ‘Having trouble connecting your device to the adapter?’

Note: The above article contains steps regarding Firmware update.
Modifying BIOS settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS
settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

If you would like me to provide additional advice, simply respond to this thread. I will get notified and I’ll reply to you as soon as I can.

    Hope it helps.
