    Displayport versions and cables

I have an Acer XB270HU (displayport only) display that I was driving happily with a pair of 780s in SLI, but now I've built a new rig based on a Gigibyte GA-Z270X Gaming 5. I'm so far only using motherboard video, but while I can put HDMI out to a different monitor, I can't get the Acer to recognize a signal from the displayport output. I have a 1080 to install, but I'd love to see this work from the mobo first if it's possible. I'm reading posts here and there and they all want to know what cable is being used, so I'm guessing between versions there must be different cable standards? I've googled around but have not found anything that explains what works with what and why. Can anyone point me to a reference, or just explain it if it's simple? Thanks, zz03

    :)

Continuum over DisplayPort - No signal

    Dear Gino,

I managed to connect my Lumia 950 to my BenQ GL2450 via HDMI. It does not work via an DisplayPort to HDMI cable. All my Fujitsu B22W-6 displays wont connect via an DisplayPort DisplayPort cable nor via the HDMI to DisplayPort cable.

    Please advise.

  3. Multiple Display Problem

My HP Compaq 8000 Elite PC has one VGA port and one DisplayPort on the back of the computer. I purchased 2 HP V241p displays. The displays have one VGA input and one DVI input each. I can connect each display to my computer via the VGA cable and both displays
immediately work fine. I cannot seem to get my DisplayPort to DVI cable to work with either monitor.

The ultimate goal is to have one monitor working via the DisplayPort and the other working via the VGA port so I can have dual monitors. Only the VGA port seems to work at all. It is not the DisplayPort to DVI cable itself, I have previously unsuccessfully
used a DisplayPort to VGA adapter (using a regular old VGA cable that came with the monitor) and this is the second DisplayPort to DVI cable I have unsuccessfully tried.

The problem seems to be the the DisplayPort itself.

    How can I solve this?

I don't seem to see that option in bios for the mobo, but maybe when I get the 1080 installed I will be able to make that choice. Currentlyl using intel mobo graphics. Interestingly enough, a change of cable ( i had two) has given me some positive results, but I now have video flashing off and on on both screens. Progress, but I need to get it more stable.

not sure if i understood it, but you cant use HDMI-output to deliver signal to a monitors DP-input. its licensing issue. DP -> HDMI should work or DP -> DP too yes.

if the image is blinking randomly to black and then back in, its faulty cable and/or its too long cable. 15m is maximum and to be the safest of it and be sure, 9m and less should be guaranteed to work.

KB I did misread your post. My monitor doesn't have that option in its osd menu. I did swap a cable, and got some results, altho not total happiness. Now the displayport will work, but not with stability. I can use it for a few mins, and then it will start going on and off, signal no signal and then it will stabilize for a couple mins then start over again. I'll be looking for a for sure proper cable to eliminate that issue, and at this point I'll also install the 1080 and see what results I get with that. I'm just wondering why it all worked so solidly with the 780s but now not so much. Thanks all for the input, and I'll post results as they happen.

Bath i'm actually using 2 different monitors, and the hdmi output to an hdmi monitor is solid, and until I swapped the cable there was no DP output. With the swapped cable, I get DP, but it's in and out, and it makes the hdmi input to the other monitor also switch in and out. Very frustrating but as I said above, I'll get the 1080 in and see what happens at that point. Thank you.

ok. try to keep the monitor powered, PC too, then remove both cables and insert them DP-first to pc -> then monitor. after that, insert the HDMI to PC -> then to monitor

there might be some bugs still around with the gtx 970 with the DP+HDMI working simultaneously as what ive read. Also try another DP-cable too to disable the cable error.

@Bat , you are confusing what I have and what ZigZag has *Smile .... I have a 970 GTX on DP 1.2 to my BenQ BL3200 monitors

@zigzag are you sure the MB Onboard VGA supports running both Outputs at once at higher Resolutions? might be why you have switching Issues ??? put the 1080 in and just enjoy it *Smile ...... or 2nd best try the 780's , nothing to lose ....
