  1. DMI Pool Hang...Windows 10 Recovery?

A couple of days ago, my Windows 10 installation went to sleep. It never woke up. After shutting it down and restarting the computer, it gave me an error about checksum in the Bios. After some troubleshooting and Recovery I was never able to get it to boot. However, after unplugging all of the hard drives I was able to get it to boot. It turns out that the main hard drive is the one that is causing problems. It is also the one that has my Windows 10 installation on it. I can currently boot to Linux from the CD-ROM. So I guess my question is, is my hard drive toasted? If not, is there any way to get Windows 10 to repair whatever is wrong with it?

My Windows 10 was the free upgrade. However I did burn a media disc. In fact, that is what I did my install with last year.

    EDIT WITH SOLUTION:

I used the bootable disk in the link quoted above. I was unable to update my bios by any other means, but I used Gigabyte's updated BIOS and @BIOS to get a windows type of GUI up and running. @BIOS ran and installed the biod update. I cleared DMI Pool data via check box before updating. Then...it updated. Its up and running for now.

    :)

  3. Just upgraded to Windows 10: Stuck at Verifying DMI Pool Data

I just recently upgraded my computer to Windows 10. Now my computer is stuck at "Verifying DMI Pool Data." I updated over the internet, so I don't have a physical copy of the Windows 10 upgrade DVD to try to restore from.

    DMI Pool Hang...Windows 10 Recovery?

Yes you should be able to repair the install if it is repairable from the media disk that you burned.

  5. It says it can't be repaired. What do I do? I have used seatools for do and done short and long tests on the drive and it passed both. However, the system will hang right after verifying DMI Pool data. It sits and never goes. What has windows 10 done and how do I get it to boot?

Please have a read here. Sounds like a BIOS issue.

  7. I gave that a read, but not still not sure what to do.

I have reset CMOS, I have removed the battery overnight, and neither seems to fix it.
I am able to boot to CD rom. I am able to get it to give me a boot error if I disconnect the primary hard drive and leave everything else in there. Everything I do seems to point back to the disk being bad.

If the bios was actually bad, wouldnt I have the same problem regardless of which drive was plugged in? WIndows 10 recovery says it cannot be fixed...

Another thing is that this system has, in the past, failed to 'wake up' when going to sleep or standby. It has often required a hard restart to get it back. This time, however, it didnt come back.

    DMI Pool Hang...Windows 10 Recovery?

Okay so you've ruled out the SATA cable and MB connection? No BIOS update for your board? Is your MB set to defaults?
Can you try booting to a Macrium rescue disk and select Fix Boot? If you don't have one, you can download Kyhi's rescue media - it has Macrium on there.
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

I'm not sure what else to do either. If you have a Macrium image of your HDD, you could clean install W10 to a new drive, then copy over the old C partition onto that.

  9. There IS a bios update, but I cannot make it happen because I dont have windows 10 running and other options are not practical.

Ill triple check my cables and then try the fix boot.

Really? I think that may be your problem. BIOS updates should be done before upgrading.
What are your system specs? You need to fill them in so we can see them in every post.
System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums - Windows 10 Forums

If this is an OEM-installed system, yeah, they all have their updates working through Windows. If that's the case, you'd probably have to grab a spare empty hard drive, install Windows 10, and do your BIOS update. I'm not sure how else you could do it.

Oh! Usually MBs on a custom build have you download a BIOS update to a flash drive and perform the update right within the BIOS setup - no need for Windows to accomplish that. Is this not the case for yours? (Sorry, I don't have time to research - I am trying to beat the upgrade deadline on 2 machines right now.)

  13. DMI Pool Hang...Windows 10 Recovery?

Yes...this is normally possible. But for mine, the latest update is more than 2mb, so there is an error about it being the wrong file size, so Q-Flash is not possible. Must be done using @bios or within the OS.

Can you load a fresh copy of Windows on a spare drive long enough to get your BIOS flashed?

  15. I have a new SSD on its way. Ill just start over there and then upgrade the bios as soon as I get Windows 7 installed. See how that goes....if the 'fix boot' doesnt work.
