    Have Dell Optiplex 9010- BIOS vA30- originally Windows 7 Pro, updated to Win 10 Pro- originally configured with two Seagate 1TB SATA drives On 11/7/21 the system froze; on reboot presented Blue Screen of Death/“Preparing Automatic Repair”- system usually hangs – Windows panes and rotating balls which stop rotating -- on all attempts to restore- very occasionally it re-enters the “Preparing Automatic Repair” loop again, but it doesn’t work- Circa 11/10/21 our Win10 laptop presented the same error… but did automatically repair itself User data is safe via backups and is also easily r

    Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...

    That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
    a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
    b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

    I suggest Option 1 is easier.

    If you still have problems, please repost listing each specific step and saying which option from the tutorial you are using. Thanks.

    Hi Paul,

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    We would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to run hardware troubleshooter and let us know if that helps.

    Type "Troubleshooting" in the
    Windows Search bar and press Enter.

    1. Click on "View All" in the top left corner.
    2. This will display the list of troubleshooters which are built-in in the computer. You can click on Hardware and Devices from the list and you can run the troubleshooter.

    Also I would suggest to check if there are any update pending with regard to drivers and to do so, please follow steps mentioned below.

    1. Search for Device Manager in
      Windows
      search bar.
    2. Click on Device Manager.
    3. Check if there Yellow Exclamation Point in the list of drivers.

    Make sure Windows is up to date.

    I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1: I suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter as below and check if it helps.

    • Type in search bar as control panel.
    • Then select troubleshooting.
    • Click on hardware and sound option.
    • Then click on “hardware and devices “and follow the on screen instructions.
    Method 2: I suggest you to uninstall the network drivers as below steps.

    • Press Windows+X and select “Device manager”.
    • Then expand the Network adapters.
    • Right click on the driver and uninstall it.
    And then go to the manufacturers website download the network drivers, install it and check if the issue persists.
