  1. Do not understand how the Mail program works

    I'm writing an app (in C#). Among other things the app lets users send emails. The app creates a mailto string and then invokes ProcessStart(mailto);

    So my code gets to the mail sending part, where it sends an email via mailto. I'm on the same machine where I get my gmail. When it invokes mailto I see the Microsoft Mail program operate. This is good in that I don't want the app to send email without the user's interaction.

    I click send in the Mail program and...nothing happens. Mail seems to have sent the email but my gmail (in Chrome) doesn't get it. It's not in spam or trash, or even in the sent folder. Am I doing something wrong? The Outbox (in the Microsoft Mail program) is empty.

    But it gets worse. I cannot get to Account settings anymore. Not sure why but clicking Settings->Manage Account->Mygmail.com, nothing happens. I cannot do anything.

    The mailto string looks like this:

    "mailto:L: [email protected]?subject=Test Mail&body=this is just a test"

    The Mail program is like the Your Phone program: A piece of crap. When I send something via the Mail program, it just disappears after I click send. Not in the sent folder or anything. Is there a decent source of information on this?

    I thought that using ProcessStart(mailto) would just invoke the user's active email app (like Chrome/gmail) and then they can decide to send the email. But it seems they (me) have to set into setting up some sort of Outlook mail. Very weird.

    :)

    Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

    This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Do not understand how the Mail program works :)

    In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

  3. send to mail does not open the mail program although it has been set as standard mail program

    Sorry, but it doesn't work. Default program has been correctly set to windows "mail"program.Does the fact, that the mail program has two connected email accounts (Hotmail and gmail) have any significance?
