Windows 10: Do we trust Windows anymore?

Windows XP was the first OS that Microsoft offered that I really trusted. It was stable, user friendly and I never had a Windows Update cause a blue screen or data lost because of bad updates from Microsoft. I can't remember any significant problems with it at all. Then came what I thought was a fluke with Vista. It wasn't good. I think we can all say that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, and Windows 8 was just weird.

That leads us to Windows 10. I got a new PC in December '18 with Windows 10. I initially thought this was going to be a good OS despite the spying concerns. The very first non-security update I got blue screened my computer.


I thought we'd gotten past windows updates being a problem... and not just a single update. I skipped Vista and Windows 8 for the most part, but I never had any update problems in XP or Windows 7. The internet is teeming with articles, forum posts, and videos echoing problems with several updates to Windows 10.


So, to the point, Why? I don't trust Windows anymore since it's supposedly the last version of Windows. Microsoft doesn't exactly seem too upset or worried about these problems. In fact, Microsoft seems to be using home users as unofficial beta testers for their corporate customers by releasing broken and barely tested updates. I don't feel confident or comfortable with Windows updates anymore. For the first time in over 20 years, I'm considering switching to Apple or Linux. I'm wondering if Microsoft even cares about the trust they're destroying.

Bitlocker and Trusted Platform Module problems

This issue usually occurs because the Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
uses the manufacturer driver and not the Windows built-in Trusted Platform Module driver.

To resolve this, you can manually uninstall and reinstall Trusted Platform Module. To do so, see the steps below:

• Open Device Manager on the device on which you are experiencing the issue
• Uninstall the Trusted Platform Module driver.
