Does a monitor need to be plugged into mobo to use onboard graphics?

Does a monitor need to be plugged into mobo to use onboard graphics? I was told it was possible to have my browser use my onboard graphics (Intel HD 530) whilst my video-editing program uses my graphics card.

Upgraded my motherboard and cpu but I have no display on my monitor.

Does the new mobo have onboard video??

If it does plug the monitor into the videocard you brought. It wont display anything if you plug it into onboard video. The card you installed will disable it

If you did plug it in the card you installed, remove it. Plug it into the onboard video.

See if you get a display. And does the card you installed need power to function?

Windows 10 not recognizing Radeon 580 4gb GPU cards

If you are trying to use the Radeon then you need the monitor plugged into it. With the monitor in the motherboard graphics it could well default to onboard graphics and ignore the card.

To use the onboard graphics, the monitor must be plugged into the video jack on the motherboard.

But whether you can use both onboard and a video card depends on the particular motherboard. All that I have used require using one or the other, but not both. But I have heard of folks being able to use both with other motherboards.

Well I was able to enable the onboard graphics in the UEFI and after installing the Intel HD 530 driver the onboard graphics appeared alongside the graphics card in the Device Manager Display Adapters. My monitor is still plugged into the graphics card however. I have a second monitor I got free because it was meant to be broken but apparently isn't so I'll try plugging that in.
