Windows 10: Does anyone know how to enable Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) via registry?

Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm copypasting word-for-word from my tech support post in the PCMR subreddit, but I'm not getting my answer so I'm hoping I can get it here. Maybe an actual Microsoft employee can help me? Please?

FYI I've fulfilled all the conditions to be able to see the option:

• I have a G-Sync monitor and am on the latest Windows version (20H1).
• I've already updated to the latest Nvidia drivers (the one that has HAGS).

This is actually only a purely "how do I do this" question for future reference - I just prefer, for my own knowledge, to also know how to enable it via Regedit (I'm aware that it can be enabled via Windows Settings -> Graphic Preferences; ticking the option).

Normally I would rely on Tenforums to provide the .reg files / instructions on how to enable via Regedit, but this time they didn't provide a .reg file in their guide on how to enable VRR (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/133539-turn-off-variable-refresh-rate-games-windows-10-a.html).

*(Also, I would've registered on Tenforums myself to dm Shawn Brink, the genius behind Tenforums with the grey alien avatar, about this but apparently they are disabled for new registers now)


Edit: Yes, I've googled around so hard. Absolutely no results so far after an hour of searching...

Edit 2: Just for a reference, Tenforums also have the instructions on how to enable the new HAGS feature via Regedit (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials...-accelerated-gpu-scheduling-windows-10-a.html) - I'm just surprised they don't have the same for VRR...

Edit 3: Not that this has anything to do with my main question, but just to clear a misconception - Microsoft intended for the VRR option to complement G-Sync / Freesync, NOT REPLACE THEM. Thus both can be enabled at the same time (G-Sync + VRR or Freesync + VRR).

Variable Refresh Rate

Does your PC meet the requirements below for Variable Refresh Rate?

You won’t see the slider unless your system has all of the following. If any of these are missing, you will not see the toggle and the feature will not be enabled for you.

• Windows 10 version 1903 or later
• A G-SYNC or Adaptive-Sync capable monitor
• A GPU with WDDM 2.6 or above drivers, that supports G-SYNC / Adaptive-Sync and this new OS feature

Windows 10 desktop duplication broke Variable Refresh Rate (GSYNC and Freesync)

As title.

Since latest windows 10 updates, Microsoft broke Variable refresh rate on apps that uses Desktop Duplication API.

If I use an app that uses the desktop duplication API, VRR is disengaged.

I had no problems with same drivers and same app before christmas...

Many users is still experiencing the same problem.

Microsoft, please fix it.

 

Refresh rate Problem

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Screen refresh rate is the rate at which the data displayed on screen is refreshed; it may be an image or some text document. Most of the users would like to set it to a higher rate but this also depends on the capacity of graphic
card and monitors. If the refresh rate is slow, the images on the display looks as flickering to the user eye and makes it uncomfortable to work.

Nowadays the latest monitors available in market will have minimum 60 Hz of refresh rate and it is very good option to set it to 70 Hz if you your monitor is compatible. Normally a high performance or quality monitors can reach
120 Hz of refresh rate. So I would suggest you to set your monitor refresh rate as higher as possible, below given steps describes how to access this feature on your Windows 8.1/10 PC.

• The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
• If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
• Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.

I would, as of now, suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's support website and install the latest display and chipset drivers available for the latest operating system (currently it would be 8.1 in the list).
