  1. Does OneDrive automatically compress my photos?

I want to use my 1tb account to storage my personal photos, scanned from physical ones taken even before I was born my late father had photos from the 60's and on, most of them passed on to me.

My question: will OneDrive COMPRESS or do any algorithm thing that could cause LOSS of quality e.g., compressing them in some non-lossless format? I do not want that, and if so, how do I manage do AVOID such loss, if possible?

Though I do use the backup function on my Android phone, I'm not afraid of those, I'm guessing the phone and/or the Android already had a mechanism to optimize the balance between space, use of mobile or home networks and so on. I even marked the option to upload with full/maximum quality.

My concern is only the ones I'm scanning in my Desktops both in my home and in my work, even my notebook is top notch both in power and storage, albeit less used in this matter with 1 tb space in your cloud and full wi-fi connection. The saving of bandwidth or space do not concern me at all in this case. If needed I'd prefer to upgrade the space in cloud storage rather than degrade in any form my picture history.

I'm not a professional photographer, neither those photos were that many. I just want to assert another backup to my personal photos not even concert about security for those were family friendly, about my family, actually. My fear is IF in case of some crash, in the act of recovering such pictures from the OneDrive, they could come back in lesser quality than when acquired. The thought came to me when I was saving them in an OneDrive folder, and thought about the inner workings of compressing, uploading, storing ... "wait a minute... will they be reduced in this process?"

English is not my primary language so I apologize in advance.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

  3. Files in C: drive automatically compressing?

As you may already know, if this feature is on, every new folder/file you add starts off automatically compressed. If you would like to turn it off for the whole drive, kindly follow these steps:

    • Start File Explorer . In the left pane, right-click on the drive that you would not want to be compressed.
    • Click Properties.
    • Make sure that the Compress this drive to save disk space box is unchecked.
    • Click OK then Apply.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

  4. Does OneDrive automatically compress my photos?

    Photo Compression

It's great having a 5 mega-pixel camera on my phone, except for the fact that because the photos are too highly compressed to be any good.

ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs

    Same photo, different cameras.

Okay, I know that probably no phone camera will ever as good as a dedicated product but seriously.. the figures suggest a 2.5x compression ratio.

Any way to switch this compression off?

    Thanks.
