Windows 10: Does RTLO method still work?

While I was browsing the web, I was disturbed to find that extensions are not reliable way to determine whether a file is an executable.


RTLO is used to fake extensions by writing part of the filename or other descriptions back to front. Although the detection by your AV or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not altered in any way this trick can be deceiving users at first glance.

Does this method still work on Windows? I feel that as someone who only uses left-to-right languages, I should not have to pay the price of being tricked into thinking that a file, especially an exe file, has a different extension than it actually does.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

Best method to disable Vista/Vista 64 driver signing?

It's not a matter of "try". The bcdedit command is not fully consistent and reliable for some folks.

So far, to me, it seems the third choice always locks (disables) the driver signing. If that is the case for anyone who uses it, then that would suggest it is the more reliable and consistent method of the ones I've listed, anyway.
