Does scanning an external hard drive for viruses delete data?

I have an external hard drive that I know has some viruses on it in the files I transferred. I'm wondering if I scan the drive for viruses will it delete my personal data? Do viruses attach to other files or are they separate files hidden within the folders of your personal data?

    :)

  3. How do I scan external hard drive

    Hello Kevin,

If you already have antivirus software installed, then scanning an external hard drive should be simple.

    • Connect your external hard drive to your desktop, wait for your computer to recognize that your external hard drive has been connected.
    • Open My Pc on your desktop, and select the external hard drive and scan it.
    Hope it helps.
