  1. Does storing too much data on the Desktop actually affect performance?

Hi. For a while I've been storing LOTS of data on my desktop (400 gb) because I set up a dedicated program files folder there as a safety realizing different backup methods don't always keep your Program files and only backup the User folder (my computer died and geek squad at best buy only retrieved my user folder, but thankfully I had already been using this method for a few years and didnt lose anything significant).

I've been reading online about how keeping tons of data on your desktop can cause slowdowns because Windows has to index it all on startup. It seems like every 'tech help' blog unanimously agrees this is a bad practice, but I've read pieces by actual computer technicians who say it's not really a big deal. Not sure what the best option is here since moving all those files into my Documents folder rather than keeping them on the desktop could cause a lot of my programs to break, since they're all pointing to my 'Program Files' folder on the desktop and those paths will be broken if I move it.

Does anyone have experience with this and actually noticed a difference in startup/performance or is this so negligible it's not worth the headache?

  2. Does a messy desktop affect windows performance?

should not matter that much. but since I stored the desktop on my data drive, it loads all the icons slower. so its just how fast you want your files that are on your desktop. the windows start menu should work fine. imo

  3. Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region

I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
    Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

    1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
    2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
    3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.
    Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
    3. Select add someone else on this PC.
    4. Enter a user name and hit next.
    5. Click on Finish.
    6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
    Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

Does storing too much data on the Desktop actually affect performance?

Does a messy desktop affect windows performance?

On a serious note, i dont think it affects it, unless you use .gif as a wallpaper , saving files/folders on your desktop (unless that desktop is a location on a network should not interfere with performance). I have not tested it, as i always keep it simple, my desktop has six shortcuts ATM.
