Tells me you shouldn't be downloading pirated software. . . So true, there's no A/V that can keep you from doing things you shouldn't do in the first place,
    YMMV *Wink

I prefer a full size spare tire (identical to the ones on my car), instead of one those little things that let you limp into the repair service.

Security, should be one of the top priorities for all, in today's world. Of course Windows 10 deserves better, of course it should be continued to be improved, as users we should be diligent. Not to do so, IMHO is negligence and irresponsible by all parties.

My response to the article, "Duh ... ya think??"

My thoughts exactly. Before Defender came along and was incorporated into the OS itself, I didn't use an AV for years and never once got infected. So much depends upon how a person uses their PC. If you look for trouble, chances are you can find it. *Biggrin

Everybody is responsible for their own security. In post #7 I outlined how I am doing it. No AV program can protect you if you stumble thru the web.

    Lee,
That not the only way to get Malware. You can even get it on legit sites by clicking the wrong link. I came across that fake flash player be visiting a legit site that had a link & had to use task manager to close the browser ugh. Just don't assume that person got malware by downloading illegal software.

    Hi there

Would YOU install a program that had on it "As used by the CIA, FBI etc" as a marketing claim.

It would probably supply those agencies with your keystrokes BEFORE you actually made them. !!

    Cheers

The implications of that statement are that those AVs so good that even secretive organizations use it. Now, if they claimed that Taliban use an AV like that, it would be perfect advertising.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'd join up if I got a decent AV. Any oddball organisations out there offering free software? My services depend only on the original retail price.

Original retail price for AVs I use (AVG at the moment) = $0.00, free version. It doesn't get in my way much so what the hey, doesn't ask for hamburger or beer and happens to be of some use now and than. It's quiet, doesn't jump up all the time, updates without intervention or notice. Added McShield (Free too) to help with unknown USB memories. Mbam and couple of other similar ones when something is suspected or I get bored. Above all, couple of complete sys disk backups by Reflect once or twice a month.
