How long does a Full Scan take you?

How long does a Full Scan take you? With AVG ? 10 - 15 minutes, I never scan other HDDs, OS disk SSD only. Other HDDs get scanned during files transfer to them, so there's no point of scanning them many times. May I also mention that during scanning I can do any ordinary jobs other than transferring files, without any noticeable slowdowns.

Well, when Defender allowed a browser hijacker to take over and trying to browse became a waste of time, a Quick Scan found nothing and MBAM found many things but didn't help. I got criticized for not doing a full scan! Considering that would take hours, I restored a third party's app backup.

Yeah, that's quite right as long as you are sure that backup copy was clean and that disk was properly erased before backup was restored.

No need to erase, never have for the four years that I've been using it with the last three restores being on W10.

I had and seen problems with restoration and even new installs if disk is not at pristine clean state. Lo level format or safety erase when all is filled up with zeroes is best way to make sure.

Must be an issue associated to the app you are using. I've been following my app's community forum since I've been using it and the need for that has never been suggested for any problems.

    Not necessarily...

If anything, better efficiency is needed at detecting malware.

What Windows 10 DOES need however is better security hardening right out of the box. There are things like system-wide DEP enabling, disabling remote services features among other services, enabling a few features in IE, as well as improving the firewall. Nowadays with so much interweb use and using streaming services and content, less local software and content is being stored meaning the OS needs to do more defense against internet content versus playing offense with local content. You can have a very powerful anti-virus but that doesn't do you much if you're not downloading potentially unsafe software and files. If you're doing more Netflix streaming and googly docs and email, you need a more stronger defense against network attacks.

That's mainly why there are a lot of security updates that are based around remote attacks and patching up a hole somewhere that can be exposed. If someone can remotely enable certain services on your system and use some JavaScript flaws, you have an uh-oh right there.
