Windows 10: domain user is shown as DOM\USER in login screen

while i try to login to my pc I have my username automatically shown like <DOM\USER> it used to be only USERNAME idk what happened and I searched for this problem but i can't seem to find anything....

What I am trying to do is select certain domain accounts to be shown as clickable avatars on the logon screen. These would be static users that I pick to be displayed on there and then of course the "other" selection to logon to a user not in the list.

I've been trying to find a way to do this for a little while now but I couldn't find anyone else who was looking for this type of solution.

 

Windows users at login

I cannot see all of my user accounts on the login screen on a new Windows 10 laptop. I have an account for my son and it does not appear as a user on the login screen. It is listed if I display the users with the CMD prompt. The only account I see is my
account which is an admin. His account is a user. All the suggestions I've seen are not available on home edition.
