Yea.. see if you can somehow disable whichever browser you may think could be doing this and see what happens.

But I did just come up with one "hopeful" suggestion. Remember the link I posted before?

    This one:
Green Thumbnails Picture Previews Solved - Windows 10 Forums

I would try to private message: roxieno
Because you see he possibly found what was causing this, and maybe by some rare coincidence it could be some app you're not thinking of at the moment and just so could happen to be the same app that's doing this?

Post #6 over at that thread from the guy states:
"Then I found out that another app is generating my thumbnails for pictures that's why they're green. Just had that disabled and everything's fine now!"

I would message him, cross my fingers and hope that he would get an email notification that he has a new message in his TenForums inbox.

Good luck if you decide on doing that.

But let's hope it's just that browser that was doing it, and you got it resolved.

  2. Seems the culprit is Chrome. I tried downloading about a dozen images with Firefox, and none of them have green thumbnails.
So Chrome is somehow corrupting the thumbs somehow. Which is a bummer, 'cause Chrome is my default browser and I don't want to switch.

In that case, try resetting Chrome defaults, uninstall/reinstall Chrome and review what extensions you are using.

Okay. Good you figured it out.

I'm using Chrome and I love this browser more than any other that I've tried in the past. If I were you, I would definitely try Steve's suggestions, and tinker around to fix that. I'm assuming that Chrome is a browser that you really rely on and don't want to switch to another one. That's what I would do. Try to fix it somehow within Chrome.

Before an uninstall/reinstall, try the Chrome Reset (bottom of Settings list) which will disable all extensions but retain your bookmarks and passwords, etc. If that works right away, you've narrowed it down to one of the extensions, maybe an image saver. Then you can enable extensions one by one until the culprit rears it's ugly green head. Good Luck

  6. That's what I plan to do. I don't have the time to do it at the moment, but I'll definitely try it later.

  7. So far I've enabled two extensions, and it's working fine.

Two extensions enabled so far, images are fine. Looks like an extension is definitely at fault.

Try to enable the other ones, one by one. Every time you enable 1, close Chrome and open Chrome again. Download a jpg file and see if you can narrow it down to the one extension. Then see if you can find an alternate extension that does the same thing that the broken one does.

  10. Well, that was a bust. I couldn't figure out why, but I was getting green thumbnails again, with just three extensions. I reset again, and I am STILL getting green thumbnails. So Chrome is no good.

Well, save your bookmarks from Chrome. Uninstall Chrome completely, and re-install it again. Try that.

  12. Well, there's a hitch. I've had this problem for a couple years now since installing Windows 10. I've reinstalled Windows 10 several times, and each time, Chrome has pulled this crap. Even beta, Canary, dev and Chromium builds do this.

  14. That's what they suggested on the Google Product Forums, too, among other things. I even checked Malwarebytes, my ESET firewall rules, and installed with the offline installer. A fresh, new install still does the same thing.

Hey, this could be a possibility. There's maybe a small percent chance that this could fix it.

    Uninstall your Video Card completely.
    Restart the computer.
Go to your Video Card's website and download their latest installer.
Install the Video Card and restart the computer.
Try saving pictures again from Google Chrome.

Also one suggestion that I just thought of while I was writing the thing above. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (which avoids using your video card's drivers). But also make sure to boot up in Safe Mode WITH Networking (so you can use the internet). After the computer boots up, try going to some website using Chrome and save some pictures and see what happens.
