Windows 10: Downloading photos from variousscources

Please be gentle - this must be an easy question for most of you out there.


I am fastidious about storing my photos on my PC (and backed up on an external hard drive) in date taken order. This is no problem with photos from my camera but these days I have to contend with adding in photos from my phone, my wife's phone, those received via email and whatsap and the rest. I have no problem downloading them but have two problems


1 Most do not have information about when they were taken. How can I get this?


2 They have long-winded and non-unique name references.


So when I come to download from, for example, my wife's phone it is difficult to know what to download that I haven't already (I cannot expect my wife to delete everything after every download or she wouldn't be able to show off our new grandchild to her friends). OK so I know I get the message that a photo with the same reference is already on my PC and do I want to replace it, but often a previous photo from a different scource (via an email or whatsap from my Son say) has the same reference. It does seem to me that other than tortuously viewing every photo every time there is no way of ensuring I have all the photos I want to store with a reference to when they were taken. I appreciate I am probably being very stupid but I am reasonably intelligent and just need some sort of steer on the issue.

Downloading photos in Windows 10

Downloading from Panasonic digital camera.

I have followed the steps but "Import/Export photos doesn't appear in the dropdown list. Since this is the first time I am downloading into this computer with Windows 10 it was suggested that I need to load new drivers but I can't seem to find them.

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

I suggest you to run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter by following the steps provided below:

• Type “Troubleshooting” in search box and press Enter.
• Click on View all on top left pane.
• Select “Windows Store Apps” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

Also, suggest you to check if there are any updates available for the Photos App and install the same and check for status.
