  1. DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

Recently I have been seeing the BSOD with the stop error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. The last time this occurred was last night when my laptop was shutting down. It looks as though the recent Windows 10 update 2020-09 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64 KB4576947 that I thought was completely installed a couple of days ago was not. Installation is pending. I have set the restart time to late this evening. I do not know if the incomplete installation of this Windows 10 update is related to this stop error. Unfortunately, I did not note other recent times I saw the same stop error and any concurrent events.

When I look at the two most recent .dmp files, one is dated today about 1 hour ago and the other is dated one week ago. I cannot zip the files. When using Send to>Compressed zipped folder in attempt to zip the .dmp files, I receive the error "File not found or no read permission."

I am using a Sony Vaio laptop that is approximately 10 years old. Windows 7 was the originally installed OS.

What steps should I take to prevent future occurences of DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION stop errors?

    Thank you.

    :)

    Hi,

It is possible that the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION may occur if the iastor.sys driver is incompatible with Windows 10. To isolate your issue, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes before this issue occurred?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Any response will be highly appreciated.

  3. Blue screen: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

After a recent updating, my machine has blue screen every 5 - 10 minutes.

    The error code is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I saw another post here which suggest to use "iastor.sys". But I don't have that in the driver list. Mine is storahci.sys.

    Please advise! Thanks,

    Hi Mattie,

The DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION blue screen error can be caused by a variety of hardware, firmware, driver, or software issues. Now, you mentioned that you already changed the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to standard. Did you update the driver as well? And also,
are you getting the same blue screen error when you play other games? Or is it only occurring when you play a particular game?

For the mean time, if you haven't tried any further troubleshooting steps, we suggest that you perform the suggested steps from this article:
