Windows 10: Drag and drop attachment

With Win7, I could right click on the taskbar icon, pick up a previous file and drag it into my gmail to attach. Not an option with Win10- any way to do this with a work-around??

Windows 10 drop n drag window Mail attachment problem

I have installed Windows 10 in last week only. In outlook, I was attaching files by drag n drop option. but in Windows Mail application, not able to attach file with drop n drag option. Can anyone guide.

Attach the drive to the computer.

Open File Explorer.

Drag and drop.

 

all of them. If I right-click on Word, a listing of all my recent Word docs show up. I could drag any one of those over to my gmail message and it would attach the file. Seems that none of the visible recent files in the Win10 list are "draggable".

I don't have an answer for you.
I always use the old-fashioned way......... I use the "paper clip".

 

Yeah, that's been my only option....bummer!! (yet another reason not to switch!!)

I don't know if this is relevant at all.
Are you using IE11 ?
If yes, would you mind have a look at this...................

Open IE11 > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab at top > Custom level > scroll to Miscellaneous > is Drag/Drop enabled ?

 

No, I use Chrome but don't see how that matters since the listing of files doesn't allow me to "pick up" any individual file and drag it ANYWHERE; whether it's into my gmail or any other place (like the desktop, for example). This doesn't seem to be a browser issue- more of a Win10 issue.

There has never been a way to right click on a shortcut pinned to task to pull out a file. If you are doing attachments, you need to use the Attachment icon on Gmail.

 

I've been doing that with Win7 ever since I got it. Maybe I'm describing it wrong but I just did it again (with my Win7 computer). Right-click on Word icon (on task bar); shows list of latest files accessed; I click/drag the file out onto the Gmail message I'm composing and it is dropped into the email as an attachment. That option is not possible with the list when accessed with Win 10.

Are you using Gmail online, or are you using Gmail within the Mail app ?

 

Using Gmail on line. The recent files list on Win10 comes up as a different looking list, like they are all just listed as one "document", instead of a list of individual files (as they appear in Win 7). Real stumper here...

This is what you are talking about. It was changed in 10 for allowing users more flexibility, since 10 is coded for Tablet devices also. Recent Items and Frequent Places - Turn On or Off - Windows 10 Forums

If they are coming up as "document", then you need to check the file properties for the file.

It is not good to drag and drop from a folder into a email.

Thanks- It appears that it's the drag-and-drop from the JUMP LIST (finally got the right terminology there) that isn't available. In looking into it more (with your help), it seems that this MIGHT be available in a future build of 10. What a crock!!! That drag-and-drop from a jump list to attach was SOOOO easy and now it's gone. Too late to downgrade......bummer*cry

If someone comes up with a good solution (besides the paper clip), I'm hoping for a miracle!
