Windows 10: Drag and drop options?

I know this is probably simple but I can't find settings for it anywhere.
On my old laptop with Windows 10, I was able to move files freely by just dragging and dropping into other folders.
I recently got a new laptop with Windows 10, but whenever I drag and drop, it just moves a copy and keeps the file in the same folder I was trying to move it from.

For example I was trying to move 15 music files from one folder to another. It moved the 15 files, but still kept the same 15 in the other folder. So basically I will have duplicate files that I will then have to delete. How do I stop it from copying the files every time I move them?

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

When using "Drag and Drop":

• "Alt + left mouse button" to create a Link/Shortcut
• "Ctrl + left mouse button" to Copy the file
• "Shift + left mouse button" to Move the file
