Windows 10: Dreaded SrtTrail.txt

I recently got the dreaded SrtTrail.txt error a few days ago and have been at my wits end on what more I can do.


I am using Windows 10.


My desktop kept refreshing and popped up an error. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to read it as it closed out on its own. I went to restart my computer and as it was shutting down an error quickly popped up. I was able to catch the end of it mentioning windows32/srt/srttrial.txt. It got stuck restarting, I forced a shutdown and when I turned it back on it started repairing PC. It went through the process and said it couldn’t complete.


My computer will still boot back up and I am able to logon to get to my desktop without more errors but windows keeps “refreshing”. I can access win+i but not file explorer as it closes out during a “refresh”. Safe mode, however, has more functionality without the refreshing.


I have tried reset pc and it gives me the “no change” message. Safe mode doesn’t allow it. Recovery disk says no change as well. I have done chkdsk and it comes back with no errors. I have done the bootrec string and I run into access denied. SFC scannow couldn’t complete and DISM doesn’t work. Clean install under win+i opens defender but nothing after that. I have tried a reinstall with the recovery disk but it tells me to remove it and try after booting normally, which I can’t do since I am unable to access file explorer to start the disk. I have followed other answers without any success.


I noticed when I checked update history an update on 2/12 failed. I have been reading that a windows update is sometimes the problem. Task manager shows a string of windows error reporting that opens and closes with each refresh of my desktop. I have not made any changes to hardware prior to this problem.


What else is there that I can do?

srt\srttrail\.txt problem .... but

Hello guys, I have encountered the srt\srttrail\.txt problem but with a slight variant ... I can't access the startup settings ...once I follow the usual path until the part where you press restart so that the menu will appear after rebooting, my computer
boots 'normally' and starts automatically the reparation, without giving me any choice !

I did not recently instal any hardware, but I have logitech wireless mouse, I heard the problem might be about drivers with wrong signatures ..

I need your help guys, and I'm not the only one having this problem ..

• Just to verify, are you trying to reinstall Windows 8 due to the error?
• When did you start to encounter the srt/srttrail problem?
• How did you update your laptop to Windows 10 previously?
