Windows 10: Drive 0 Unallocated Space Total size 0.0 Free space 0.0

Hello,


I have tried multiple methods to resolve this issue. I would request you experts to help me.


My machine is Sony Vaio SVF15319SNB with a Intel chipset QM87 According to product description on internet.

I am trying to install windows 10 64Bit using a USB pendrive. Since my harddisk doesn't work. On the Windows 10 installation window I get this error Drive 0 Unallocated space total size 0. This means my system/machine is able to detect the non functioning hard disk but unable to detect external usb pendrive which has windows 10 downloaded files from windows media creation tool Tried rufus method as well. The Boot priority set to external device which is USB pendrive in my case.


I have tried Both GPT and MBR schemes with respective boot modes Legacy and UEFIusing rufus. Still the same error.


As I was trying to find solutions for this I encountered that this type of error also shows up when windows is installed through a hard disk. As suggested by experts on other platforms - Use diskpart method or install drivers to detect the hard disk. So I tried the diskpart method many times but nothing useful. Also, I put RAID drivers of windows 10 64Bit in pendrive and scanned each one but nothing shows up.


Previously my laptop was working with 32Bit using usb pendrive. My chipset was somehow compatible with 32bit driver RAID . But, Since my system supports 64Bit Architecture, I tried reinstalling but I face this issue.


1. What could be a possible solution to this?
2. What intel RAID driver is compatible with SVF15319snb chipset QM87?

Drive 0 Unallocated Space 0.0 MB total size 0.0 MB Free space During Windows Installation

MBI'm trying to re-install windows 10 via USB installation media but I get to windows setup screen that shows me Drive 0 Unallocated Space 0.0 MB total size 0.0 MB Free space ! This partition is too small. Make the size
of this partition at least 9395MB or select another partition"

The problem is that there is no other partition or drive to choose from. any help?

windows explorer reads disk d: used space=0, free space=0, capacity=0

Was running check disk in windows 7 ultimate on Gallifrey D: checking both options automatically fix errors and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Computer froze so hit cancel. Windows Explorer now reads Local disk D: (not Gallifrey) used space=0, free space=0,
capacity=0. DiskGenius still reads the disk as Gallifrey NTFS Active 931.GB and reads all files, although some file sizes are in red. I don't know how to recover the files and I am unfamiliar with DiskGenius. Help please!

 

Windows setup unable to install windows 10 on new hard drive - total size 0 - free space 0

I am trying to replace the hard drive on a Lenovo Ideapad 100s. The new disk is a WD3200BUCT and is seen in BIOS, however when starting install, windows set up shows Drive 0 Unallocated space Total size 0 and free space 0 "windows cannot be installed on this drive" (the partition is too small).

I have used Windows Explorer / Computer Management / Diskpart in Windows 10 (laboureous as this is the drive I want to replace), windows 7 desktop and windows 7 Netbook to format, convert to GPT, partition, delete partition, create volumes, delete volumes and so on. I have used Linux Mint 18.3 to do the same and every time the disk is visible, accessable and correct with 298GB of unallocated space / free space as a single volume, 2 partitions and unallocated space and any other variation that I could think of trying. But as soon as i place into the Lenovo laptop, I always get the same result. This is also seen in the command prompt Diskpart at this stage of the installation, but I cannot make any changes to the drive as I get the error "File not found". It allows me to clean the drive, saying clean successful, but a new command list disk shows no changes, still size 0 free space 0

I have booted the laptop (to commence the windows installation from USB) in UEFI and Legacy with the same result.

My understanding is that SATA interfaces are backwards compatible, so if the drive is SATA I (laptop has SATA II Interface) then it should still work (I think the replacement drive may actually be SATA I).

Then I thought it must be the driver but I successfully installed Mint 18.3 on the new drive in the Lenovo laptop and the device is recognised by the BIOS, so that cannot be it?

I have checked on Lenovo Support Website and this drive is listed as a suitable replacement.

Does anyone have any idea what this problem is and what can I do to resolve? Is is simply no more complicated than I should replace like for like and replace the old drive with the exact same model and capacity?
