Yes, I finally figured that out after I paniced. *Smile

The links you and Dude provided have proven to be invaluable. Through reading and trial and error, I've learned a lot. I knew from experience that the HP driver wouldn't work, but decided to try it anyway. I thought I had it by installing as Administrator, but nope.

I wound up using Dude's first link, which was on the NVidia site. Although it said Vista 64 bit, it worked without a hitch. I'm now from 1024 x 768 to 1440 x 900, so I'm good! At least I don't see everything as distorted. *Smile

So, thank you Mystere and Dude! You've both been a great help! I appreciate it very much.

And although I didn't expect the drivers from the NVidia site to work, they did, Dude! Don't ask me why, because I don't know! It's just one of those things that worked out.

Mine is not to reason why . . . it worked and that's good enough for me. *Dinesh

I'm glad I don't play anything but solitaire, because at this high res, the screen flashes. But since I know why that is, I'm OK with it. I took it down a few notches, but it still flashed, so I will probably end up changing some settings. My business apps work fine.

Thanks go to you and Mystere for the help and knowledge you provided.

Actually, they said Vista and Windows 7. Windows Vista used WDDM 1.0, While Windows 7 used WDDM 1.1, Windows 8 had WDDM 1.2 and 8.1 WDDM 1.3. Windows 10 uses WDDM 2.0.

Three is some compatibility between the earlier WDDM models, but you may find a lot of things just won't work. LIke I doubt you'll get DX12 or even things like Wireless Displays to work.

But, it will likely be enough for basic display operations and even some gaming...

Oh! It did didn't it! I don't know why I didn't see the Windows 7 part. It hit me that maybe I could have Device Manager hopefully update the driver, but that was a bust, although the card is now identified properly. I was hoping WDDM 2.0 would be found for this card, but I guess not.

For now, the main reason I wanted the driver updated is so I could use the computer with some modicum of efficiency and that's what I have. No game playing for me . . . Solitaire is all I play.

was stuck at 1024 x 768 until I used the old 2009 NVidia driver referenced by Dude (thanks Dude!), which got me to 1280x800 and a much clearer display. *Cool

Any driver at least WDDM 1.0 (Vista) works in Windows 10 at its full potential. Nobody expects DirectX 12 support from old hardware! But as long as he can make the card work with older drivers, he should be satisfied with that. The card will work with the same features and capabilities as in Windows Vista, who cares? The point is that he won't need to buy a new card just for installing Windows 10.

PS: I have a relatively recent nVidia GeForce GT 620 card and newer official nVidia Windows 10 drivers are WDDM 1.3! Of course I can install WDDM 2.0 drivers from Windows Update, but I would rather install official drivers and get all features and nVidia Control Center. Microsoft WDDM 2.0 drivers do not make the most out of my card and I certainly don't like that.
