    OK, a quick update, though I can't say at the moment how permanent the effect will be.

    I've followed the 2 (out of 3) steps in the guidance slicendice referred to (I've skipped the underclocking part) and it improved the situation. The fans haven't got as quiet as they used to be, but for sure the noise level has decreased in a notifiable way.

    I've also found a threat on the Dell's forum I had missed before that gives some extra insight - basically a guy from Dell says that with DP connections, the Thunderbolt chip is activated on the motherboard and it starts producing a considerable amount of heat, next to CPU and GPU. Hence the extra coolers activity. Sounds like quite as much reasonable, as disappointing, explanation.

    I don't think there's any issues with TB. I see you found more model specific issues with the device + model specific issue with loud fans. That suck. *Sad

    Normal problem on many ultra books. Either they are loud or hot. Asus devices are the best when it comes to cool and quiet laptops.
